Troop Change for DH.
So hubby gets a call today from the commander, 1LT, and first sgt. of his troop.
Because he is not deploying they want to free up his E-6 slot to give to someone else, but they didn't want (and had no grounds to) demote DH back down to E-5. So they gave him two options--one was to join the ING (Inactive National Guard), however, if he did that, he would have to pay back a portion of his reenlistment bonus. The second option (and the option we are choosing) was for DH to leave his troop and become a drill sgt. for the OCS program.
It's all kind of sad and exciting for DH. He loves being a Cav Trooper, has been one since he joined and has been with his unit for years. Now because he isn't deploying with his guys, he is basically being forced out of his troop.
He is really excited to go through the drill sgt. school though.
Have any of your servicemembers experienced a unit change? I imagine it's much more prevalent in the active branches of the military than it is in Guard.McD

Am glad to hear that there is a good side to this change. I know nothing about the military, but at least there are choices!!

Well, my dh "sorta" has switched units! lol He's an officer, and we have moved from Minnesota to Montana. He started in infantry, them became an artillery officer, and then when we moved to Montana, they didn't have artillery anymore, so he became qualified as a transportation officer. He is full-time active guard, so he is also considering becoming qualified to be a communications officer, as well.
He is constantly at schools and training, but he loves it! Good luck to your dh at drill sergeant school. DH was a TAC officer at Camp Ripley in Minnesota for a couple of years and loved it. I, personally, was horrified when I went to their graduation and somebody told me how scary he was. Huh?

Hubby actually got word that RTI isnt going to accept his transfer since his ETS date is in a year. They don't want to put time and money into training him if they can't keep him. Makes sense.
So hubby gets to stay with his unit! He is stoked.McD
