Question Care packages to those in Kuwait?

I'm sorry if this is a silly question, but we are not a military family here...BUT my dh's cousin's dh has just been called over to Kuwait. I have his address, and I'd love to send him a care package. My question is this: where do I find out what I am allowed to send him as well as suggestions of what would be most appreciated by those soldiers over there?

If you need more information to answer my questions, please feel free to PM or email me or reply here.

    Thanks!

Looks like I may have answered my own question, but I'd still like to hear firsthand from you military families. Thanks!

I don't know the rules for sending packages and what can be included in them but I can give you some ideas of things I have sent to Malcom and some friends.

Baked goods like cookies. I wouldn't send any that have chocolate in them - it would melt. To keep them from going stale I would put a piece of bread in the package with the cookies. Magazines, movies (DVD's), books. Candy - I would send lots because they always share Letters, letters, letters!!!! When writing letters I wouldn't talk about anything negative going on back home...they have enough negative issues going on over there. If you are sending a package for a holiday (July 4th for example) I would send decorations for that holiday. They can decorate their area and have a little bit of home. Updated pictures are good too. There are so many things you can do and it's fun to put the packages together!! No matter what you send they will love it. I know they love to get mail so I would send as much and as often as you can. His wife will probably have a better idea as to what can be sent and what isn't allowed. I will keep him in my prayers and pray for his safe return.

Thanks so much for the ideas Daphne--particularly about the holiday decorations. I will definitely send some for Easter and upcoming holidays.

Thanks too for the prayers--I always worry that he won't come home. He has two little girls too (ages 11 mos and 3 yrs), and I feel so sad that they don't understand where Daddy went.

My best friend has a 2 1/2 year old and it's getting really hard on him when his daddy deploys. I remember a year ago we were all in Puerto Rico and it didn't really effect him that much. Now that he is just a year older he's really starting to understand things and his emotions are on a roller coaster. It's tough! I have a hard time being by myself when Malcom leaves sometimes and I can't imagine having children and dealing with the goodbyes. I keep those women and children in my prayers!!

Also (I don't know how relevent this is for you) you can't send alcohol, or porn. They told us not to send perishables. They could use baby wipes, small bottles of febreeze, toothpaste, playing cards, magazines, paper and pens and stamps. I could thik of more things but I think you probably found lots of good stuff on those websites. Hope this helps.

Be careful what you send in the religious realm. For example, when I was in the Middle East recently, our families were not allowed to send over anything representing Christmas out of respect for the country. Also, overly exposed skin, like picutres of people in bathing suits, short shorts and such is a no-no. Home baked goods were appreciated along with chips, chocolate, jerky and local newspaper and magazines. Hope this helps.

Just heard this on the radio:

    Sunscreen
    toothbrushes
    toothpaste
    soap
    basically any personal hygiene products
DO NOT send food or beverages

Do these sites tell you where to send the packages? Maybe I could get my church to collect stuff.
