A notice concerning this was posted on the intranet at work. After getting permission from the person organizing this (N P), I am posting it here in case anyone here would be interested. BTW, I am sending some books to this person. To preserve privacy, I will just use initials.
C H, a co-worker of mine, has two friends, T and N P, who are currently stationed in Germany. N is still in Germany but T was recently deployed to the Middle East. N and another soldier in T’s office are currently spearheading a project to collect paperback books to send to our troops in Iraq. They specifically chose paperback books because they are small, easy to stuff into a duffel bag, and unlike books on tape, don’t need batteries or electricity. This all began when it was brought to their attention that a library for our troops had been set up but that it is located near the Baghdad Airport. As I’m sure you know, no soldier is going to risk his or her life in a convoy to go get a book.
Therefore, they created Books for Troops. Their goal is to send 200+ books to various locations in Iraq and set up mini-libraries. They are asking for a variety of topics and titles so these libraries can offer something for every soldier. After an article about their project was written up in Stars and Stripes they had an enormous outpouring of support from around the world. Close to 1000 books are already in the mail and N receives tons of e-emails everyday from people who want to help. All donations are send to N in Germany and after sorting, they are mailed through MPS (free) to our contacts in Iraq. If you or anyone you know would like to support their project, please PM me and I will send you N P’s mail and e-mail addresses.
Thank you for your support and we look forward to sharing your books with our soldiers.
