Guess I'll be joining this forum soon
We just signed papers today to allow my 17 yo to join the Marines.
Someone calm me down please! I don't want to let him, but I've always told them I'd support any career choice they made as long as it's legal and moral. Now, I'm having to eat my words.

It'll be alright mom - honest.....you're doing the right thing by holding fast to your word....teaching him integrity - that can only help him in his Marines career!
We're all here for you!! If there's anything I can help you with - you know how to get ahold of me...
Welcome aboard Denise!

I know this is hard on you with the current military situation. Please let your son know how proud I am of him for being willing to serve during this time in history. He's a courageous and loyal American, just like his Mom!

I know exactly how you feel, Denise. If it were my son I'd be torn between wanting to keep him safe and keeping my word. To be truthful I don't know what I'd do. Hugs.

I think one of my biggest fears is that my dad or my son's dad will die while he is away and that he'll forever regret being gone during their last days-- KWIM?
My son is VERY close to my dad-- he thinks grandpa can walk on water! And my dad's health is pretty bad, as is Marty's. We see each of them declining month by month. I just don't want him to spend his life regretting not being here, but I also don't want him to spend his life regretting not joining the Marines. So-- we talked long and hard about it, and left the decision up to him.

Denise, I was by my dad's bedside for 16 straight months - I still have my own personal regrets surrounding his death.....and surely, your son is fully aware of health issues in his family, yet he's showing this level of maturity that is quite rare in young men his age....a lot of guys can't even make it through the recruiter's office for the Marine's - what an honor & a testimony to your parenting that he's going to be one of the few, the proud, the Marines!!

I'm finding more & more that the hardest part of being a parent is the letting go.....
I'm here for you sweetie.....

You must be worried Denise of course, but your son is doing what he wants with his life and it a responsible choice. We're all proud of him!

being part of the military family is not easy, but it does have its rewards. Best of luck to your son. It is truely a noble thing to be a part of the world's best.
