    Unhappy Helping wounded marines

    This is a post I found on anothe website. So sad. I wish I had the money to put together a package to send, but alas, I don't. Maybe you or someone you know could help out.
    ******************************************

    Want to help out wounded Marines this holiday season?
    Here's an email I received from someone who works with the base. I know there are many, many wounded military members here right now and many spouses that have quit jobs so they can spend time at the hospital with thier wounded spouse. I am amazed at the number of purple hearts popping up around base and at the number of young men I've seen with combat injuries. It is very sad. Anyhow, here is the email with a phone number to call to verify the information is correct.

    Even if you can't/don't send anything here, maybe you can find a local place that has a similar effort underway and donate time or items to that.
    Thanks!

    Subject: Camp Pendleton Request

    This message is forwarded as an urgent request!

    Not only is Balboa Naval Hospital receiving our injured heroes but the medical facilities at Camp Pendleton are also at near No Vacancy populations. In the latter case it's not money
    that is needed for our wounded Marines at Pendleton but stuff.

    Here's why and what they need:

    At the beginning of Operation Iraqi Freedom, some of the spouses of the deployed Marines put together hundreds of recovery baskets in anticipation of wounded Marines arriving at our military hospitals. The purpose behind these baskets was to provide the wounded with personal items to be used during their hospital stay and to help fill up their days while being confined in the hospitals. However, due to the higher than anticipated numbers of wounded, they are all but out of the supplies to outfit these baskets.

    They are in need of the following items:

    *phone cards
    *towels and wash cloths
    *hygiene gear (razors, shaving cream, etc.)
    *books and magazines ("uplifiting" ones)
    * nonperishable food (snacks and candy),
    * DVDs,
    * all sizes of batteries,
    * Game Boy games,
    * Domino's Pizza gift certificates (they deliver
    on base)

    Put in a box, (I wouldn't wrap them- need to be inspected but make sure the items are not rolling around in box)

    These items can be sent to

    * MSgt William Bonney,-Attn: Wounded Marines
    * Office of the Division Inspector,
    * 1st Marine Division Rein FMF, Bldg 1413 Room 200,
    * Box 555380,
    * Camp Pendleton, CA 92055-5380.

    Thank you for your patriotism and support of our troops!

    I know that there is an email going around that asks for phone cards for soldiers to make long distance calls who are being cared for at Walter Reed Military Hospital as well. I didn't keep the email with the contact info though.

    I might be able to put together a small package for the soldiers. I think this would be a good project to do with my niece, maybe I'll take her shopping and we can pick out some things together.

    Thanks for sharing!

    Thanks for this information. A friend of ours was wounded a while back and when he recovered was sent back to the front lines. I know that Joe would have appreciated having these things while he recovered.
