The saga for ds continues getting to Bootcamp
Well, he was suppose to leave on Monday for bootcamp. He was to leave around 1 in the afternoon, but their flight was cancelled, and they put them up in the hotel for another night. Not really a big deal, but a pain in the butt. Tuesday comes and they get up at 4:00 and have them sitting at the airport from 10am until around 3:00pm. He calls and tells me that they cancelled their flight once again, and that they are getting on a bus to take them to Dulles so that they can fly out of there. Now, for those of you not familiar with my area, that is about a 2-3 hour drive right in prime rush hour traffic around Washington, DC. So, I am hoping that they made it to the airport so that they can get on the flight there. So far, the flight is listed as on time. There is only one flight from there to their next stop, so they have to make it in time to get on that flight. I have not heard from him yet, so no news is good news I guess. He told me he will try to call me when they reach their connection airport if he can. If all goes well, I will get a call around midnight stating that he has arrived at Parris Island. So, I am sitting here on pins and needles hoping that he doesn't get stranded at another airport. He has very little cash with him as he spent most of it the last day. All I want is for him to get there and start his training. What a day!!

Well, he made his flight from Dulles, but with the plane leaving late, he will probably miss that connection flight. So, he will be stranded again. He found out that because of all this crap with the travel, it could push his graduation back. What a mess this has turned into. The poor kid has only ever flown on a plane once and this is the first time he is alone. What a way to start! His only hope is that the connection will be delayed. If not, he will be stuck in that airport the entire day tomorrow because I highly doubt that they will fly them out in the morning as it is the tradition to get to Parris Island late at night. Either way, he will spend most of his day in an airport someplace. So I am still stressing out. All I want is for everything to go as planned for him. Keep those fingers crossed!

Welcome to the military. No joke.
I'm so sorry he (and you) have to go through this. I hope they are able to get him there in time so that it doesn't push back his graduation date. Jeesh, they could have driven him there in this amount of time

Oh, I have been part of the military for 11 years (dh is National Guard), but I just thought that he wouldn't start getting screwed by the military until after bootcamp. I think the part that ticks me off the most is that no one got in touch with them when they got to Charlotte and helped them out. They spent the night in the airport, sleeping on the floor. Thank goodness for the USO. They left them into their lounge and fed them. Now they just have to wait until their flight leaves tonight. I am hoping that things go well, and they make that flight. At the very least, it should show the DI's that they can work together as a team and get the job done. Keep the fingers crossed that this will all be over tonight.

Traci, I will keep my fingers crossed for your recruit. Thank goodness for the USO. They have helped my son out a few times.
I hope your recruits graduation date isn't pushed back. Will they have to wait until the next week to start or will they just jump in where the other recruits are already at? I wonder how it will work with them all being delayed eventhough it wasn't their fault.~*Michelle*~

hmmm i wonder if he was flying the same airline dh was flying last week. one of his flights got cancelled and the only way for him to get home before 10 pm (he got to teh second airport a little after 9am) was to fly into another airport.
when he asked why it was cancelled he was told they didn't have enough crew to fly the plane :/
hope things are going much better for you ds now.wife to carl
