Dh got selected to go to the
Sargent Majors Academy. Its in ElPaso Texas. We ae in Wisconsin. Its for 9 months. He leaves in August 08 and will be done in May 09. Yds and I are not going to go with him because yds will be a junior in h.s and I dont want to move him. When dh is done with school, the commanders here on post really want him to come back here and will try to do everything in their power to get him back here. The Army may have other ideas so potentially we could be separated for another yr after that because yds will be a senior and I will not move him then.
Its a wonderful thing for dh. To be selected to attened the academy is an honor and it will be so helpful in his getting his promotion which will be his last. The pay difference is $600 or so a month and then its $500 or so a month more in retirement $$$. Of course he wont get promoted right away but it will come. We have some decisions to make if we were to be apart for up to 2 yrs and we have some time as he doesnt leave till August. At least he is not going back to Iraq.

Congratulations!! That is awesome!! YAY!!!
We moved to Ft. Campbell this past summer from the UK and my DS had to start a new school as junior as well. However, if I had my choice I would have liked to start him in a new school as a senior. Why? Because all they have to do is make good grades and get into a decent college. When we were in the UK we kept a boy for his senior year since his folks pcs'd back to the states. It was horrible!! He did nothing academically above attending school!! He goofed off with his friends more than doing his school work and stayed in trouble with us for low grades. I wouldn't stress over - the military is all about moving folks around. My husband goes to a 9 month school in MAY 08, now we are also stressed about that he might have to PCS after his final graduation in 09 and then we would have to stay behind until DS graduates from HS. But we quit worrying it over - in the Army we learned that little goes to plan anyway.
A huge "YAY" for you guys though!! Ask your DH if they will teach him to measure the height of grass at the Academy and re-write TRADOC! Just joking! I spent 9 yrs in and I would have been that kind of CSM!

PS: What Army base is he at in Wisconsin?

Congratulations to your DH!
I feel the same as you about moving your children with only a few years left of high school. I hope you can work out an arrangement that works for everyone.~*Michelle*~

Congratulations for your dh! What an honor!
I can understand not wanting to move your son, but I can understand how hard it will be for you to be separated.
Will he be able to come home at all?

Congratulations!
It's so nice of you to want to keep your son in the school he's used to,(I had to move in my senior year from California to Louisiana) Nice to keep the family together also. Tough decisions. Hope everything works out just the way you want.

PS.....
Sorry if I sounded a little hard about moving kids. We were not even supposed to be here because of DH selection and awaiting orders to his next school. It has worked out great for us in the long run and knowing that you a seasoned Army wife will help you sort it all out. Also, thank goodness he is out of Iraq for a while! Also - DUH for me - I forgot about Ft McCoy!

Congratulations to your husband!
And I think it makes sense not to move the family. Those last years of high school are important, educationally and socially.
