    Smile August 2008 Grocery Challenge

Here we go, another month to see if we can make our money stretch as far as we can. I figured I'd start this today since the first of August is in the mid of the week.

So how is everyone doing for this month? Are you looking to hit your goal for the first time? Are you trying to stay in budget out of habit? Let's see how everyone does.

My budget for last month was $400, I spent $435. So this month I will revamp it and make it to that $400 mark.

I actually cannot believe how little I have been spending lately (garden, pantry, etc....)
I should really and truly be able to come in under 250.00. That's everything.......and school lunches too, since we start the 12th!

I'm in. I'm over for this month, I haven't been paying as much attention to groceries as I should. With school being out, it has thrown my "snack" budget into overdrive! Hopefully, next month, I can get back on track. I think it is a 5 week month though...so I need to sit down and figure out what I should be spending!

Oh my. I don't know if I dare set a budget, the prices change every week! We have been eating healthy, no junk, lots of fresh produce, and it is so expensive. I'll be realistic, and say $400 for August. I lost count in July, but I think it was around $500.

I'm in! I'm going to change it up a little from last month though. Instead of $100 for groceries and an unlimited stockpile budget i'm going with $75 for Groceries & $25 for Stockpile items & $20 for HBA.

    Working on:
    Eating healthy for "Spot"
    Saving LOTS of money
Starting to live a more natural life

Ok, time to get back on the bandwagon. Summer and having the kids home hasn't done much for my budget. I really need to watch August since with school starting it's our shortest month (you have to pay book rental in Indiana) so I'll say $500. I'll probably have to really use the stuff in the freezer but that's ok. Angel food comes mid month and that will help.

I am going for $400 this month. I totally lost track last month and didn't stay on budget with anything! My $400 will include food, home and personal stuff...along with pet food.

    What is HBA?

Ok I am new to the boards so this will be my first month. I am going to budget $250.00 for the month. This will include groceries, stock pile, and toiletries. I believe this will be enough for my DH and I and our 2 year old.

We're in again this month. It'll be tricky with DS4 being out of town until the 6th and then my mother coming into town from the 12th to the 26th. My mom doesn't expect me to cook her all sorts of expensive meals, so I think we're going to be on target this month:

Goal - $400 (not including stockpile), $480 including stockpile

    Our tally so far: $226.32 (includes stockpile of baked beans - 9.24, bread - 7.45, 10lbs of carrots - 9.96, toothpaste - 1.98 for two @ 0.99 cents a piece, 6 packs hot dogs - 11.94, 6 boxes mac n cheese - 4.74, 25 lbs of ground beef - 25.35, 4 bottles Bullseye BBQ sauce - 7.16, 2 bottles Diana bbq sauce - 5.54, 1 box raisin bran - 2.98, 12 cans chicken noodle soup - 6.98, 12 cans tomato soup - 5.28, 6lbs yellow onions - 3.92)

    Total stockpile amount - 102.52
Groceries spent so far in August - 123.80 (this will last until August 9th)

Well, I went OVER for July in our grocery budget but didnt spend all that I allotted for stockpiling.

I think August I will set a grocery budget of $350 and a stockpile budget of $75.

I also think that I will budget $50 for HBA stuff and hopefully some stocking up on those items as well.

I'm in. With as much as the prices have gone up and with my upcoming surgery (hubby will be living off of frozen dinners for awhile) I'll say $100 - with that including stockpile items.

Even though I totally blew July's goal, I'm going to lower my goal this month to $500. The kids will be going back to school and I will be home more. No more endless eating and wasting food.

Okay, I am going to give this a try for the first time. I do not have any idea how much I usually spend on groceries in a month. I guess that is why I need to set a budget.
I will say 500.00. This is for food, stockpiling and also the childrens school lunches.

I missed my budget by a lot. I'm going to try for $250, and see what happens. We'll be moving in mid-august, so it'll be tough.
