In my Savings Account right now I have $5050.
By January 31st 2009, I want $6000 in there.
This will be difficult but doable, if I can keep DH happy and on board.
Weekly Budget
Rent: $190
DH pocket money: $50
Groceries: $30
Utilities: $20
Phone/Internet: $20
Fuel: $50
Chooks:$5 ($20 per month on wheat)
Mobile Phone: $5
Car registration: $10
Misc Must-Have Purchases: $20
For the groceries, I'm actually only going to spend $10 a week - at the local shop or the farmer's market. The other $20 will go into a bag to be 'saved up', and when we have $100 or so we will go buy some beans/lentils etc in bulk to pep up the stockpile.
I can do this, because I have a pretty good stockpile already.
We won't actually spend $50 a week on fuel, so the remainder can go into my 'change jar' to be put into the Savings Account.
Now, DH's regular income (if he can work 4 x 9 hour days) is $510 / week.
This leaves only $110 / week to save, which would NOT make my savings goal.
BUT if he can get another 9hr work day - that would be another $135.
Then I could save $245 / week, and make my goal.
The tricky part will be keeping DH feeling secure and not deprived. To this end I am menu planning to make sure he gets great, varied meals and delicious packed lunches, as well as other small treats (back rubs, love notes, etc). If I can keep him happy and be zealously frugal in a discreet kind of way, I think we can do this.
Here goes.
