Did my weekly shopping today and I went way over budget. DS's 3rd birthday party is this weekend and there are a ton of people coming. So hopefully we can just eat from the pantry for next week so I can meet budget. For the month I'm at $402 with a budget of $460. I still need to buy his cake (cost me almost as much to make it myself so I'm taking the easy way out) and some bread for the subs I'm making. The cake will be another $24 and the rolls probably about $3-5.

A challenge update. I'm irritated here. While I've been carefully using things from the pantry to make meals dh has gone nuts. Just this week he has stopped and bought himself-pepsi, mt dew, oreos, doritos, Burger King and two jugs of juice. We had pop, cookies and snacks here, he just wanted specific things. Argh!!! He is very good about not going into debt for big things but will nickel and dime me to death. He feels that he deserves what he wants since he works hard. I have no idea how much he's spent because he doesn't. I'm going to guess $50 so my budget is kaplooey. I'm going to continue keeping track of my spending but geesh!

I understand you pain Joyofsix. My Dh used to be the same way. I felt like an investigative detective all the time, asking "What did you have for lunch today? Did you buy anything?". Sometimes only empty pop bottles or part of a bag of chips would give me clues!

When I did get a "confession" - of course there was no receipt or any idea of how much he spent, just a shrug of the shoulders. Then it was like the Price Is Right. Did you spend "$3?, $4?, over $6?"

To help solve it, I doubled his monthly allowance. If he wants to eat out or buy snacks, that's what the extra $20 is for. If he doesn't spend it on food, he can keep it for whatever he wants. It's really cut down on my aggravation!

That's it! I'm on budget and I won't spend anymore money until the month is over! We're a bit short on fresh fruit and milk, but I brought out the condensed milk for coffee and I have some cans of dried fruit to add to oatmeal for breakfast. I have a bread recipe that only needs flour, salt, yeast and water. And a big 20lb turkey in the fridge. I'm going to make it!

I haven 't totaled everything for Jan. yet. I'll post a specific number in the next day or two. I had set my budget at $200 for 2 adults, 2 bottomless pits, 2 dogs, and a cat. This was to include everything including eating out. I know I stayed under it for groceries but we did make two fast food stops at the end of the month so I think I will end up over. I'm still pretty pleased with the results though as I definately had more fun shopping than I had in a long time. It's good to seriously get back in the game.

Ok, I was over for January early in the month, but got some great deals. My last trip on the 25th I spent $16 for more sale items. I added my stockpile a lot of sale items we will use, so I'm not too "upset" over my total! Now, to see what deals I can find in February.
