I'm late in but I need to get back on track with the budget. I haven't done any grocery shopping yet this month but I did pick up a few odds and ends so I am going to say $75 dollars for the remainder of March. I'm only feeding me so I should be able to do it.

After reading this thread I am ashamed of my food budget. I spend 600/month for 6 people. My daughter requires a special diet, including Pediasure, so I guess I could count that as "medical" budget, but I am still spending it no matter how I label it.

I am going to try this challenge. I really can't set a goal amount yet because, sadly I am not real sure on what I spend on average for food. I haven't done my shopping yet for the month other than to pick some stuff up yesterday. I had a $40 dollar gift card that I used mostly on fabric and underware, but did buy just a few food items. My bill came to $41.09. So I guess I can say that so far I have spent $1.09. I do my main shopping twice a month and the first one comes up on Thursday. I'll reaport back then.

You will be amazed how much you do spend on groceries when you aren't paying attention. Good luck!

I'm already have way through my budget!
Dh likes to walk to the organic store as part of "together time". Which is nice. Except when going to buy some milk turns into a $76 purchase! I did pick up a few basic food items we needed, and somehow oatmeal fudge bars, bananas chips and green tea flavored yogurt slipped into the cart. I pointed them out to Dh and he says he's never seen those food items before in his life and has no idea how they got into the cart

How can I figure out the real cost of eating only organic/local basics if my "better half" is right behind me stock piling snack food?
Little does he know how serious I am about this budget - revenge will be some pretty interesting meals from the food storage....anyone have a recipe involving instant mashed potatoes and canned tuna?

count me in....i am allowing $100 for the entire month...i have spent a little less than $9.00 so far... its just dh and i (and the kitties) so i should be able to do it...we are still eating out of the cabinets and fridge....(this has taken much longer than i thought so i guess i had a larger stockpile than imagined...) my goal was to use it all up before buying anything new...(except things to 'round-out' and fresh fruits/veggies and milk...

My MIL told me last night that the Harris Teeter had whole chickens for .59/lb, so I stopped today and picked up three more chickens for our freezer as we were down to only 1 left. I also picked up paper towels and garbage bags there since we were out. I spent $22 today and am up to $125 so far for the month.

I'm staying at $300 for March. I've spent $79.83 for fruits, veggies, spices, and $31.04 of this was at the meat market for round steak, Italian sausage and ground beef. I've got to make stuff for the freezer. It was great to come home and just reheat food when I didn't feel like cooking.Yeah!

weekly grocery run today. Spent $74 total, but got some steaks, ribs, and lots of fruits and veggies, so the total wasn't a complete shock.
