~Spent $14 getting some foods for our birthdays. Got:

    2 ice cream
    2 natural pb
    2 lasagna noodles
    box puff pastry
    pack dried beef

    I'm now at $244.
I'm trying to decide if I should include the take-out we got this week. We rarely get food out and if we do it comes out of our pocket money. But these meals were planned into the menu as birthday choices. I probably should add them. It was $50 for three meals. So I'm now at $294.~

Okay, I'm rethinking my participation in this. Not that I don't want to participate, but that I am going to adjust my goal.

Originally, I had said $25 a week, per person. With 5 people, in a month of 4 weeks, that's $500. NONSENSE! I can't spend that kind of money on groceries this year! No way, no how. Even with ds2 still in Pull-Ups, that just feels overwhelmingly too much for my taste.

So, I'm going to bring it down to $20 per person, per week. That brings me to $100 per week, which I think is still a lot, but in weeks when we need Pull-Ups, it will cover. I may wind up looking at it by the week, but then looking at the average for the month and see if it came to $20 per person, per week.

By years end, I'd be thrilled if I could get it down to $15 per week per person, or even $10. Of course, a lot of that rides on the little guy. We'll see how it goes. For now, though...$20 it is.

Amy, you can do it. We do, $10 is not an unreasonable number. I shop a produce wholesalers and buy only what meat is on sale. I purchase bulk flours, rice etc, and work it into the $10 per person budget.

~One last trip to Aldi to finish out the month. Spent $28 and got:
    bread
    tomatoes
    romaine hearts
    12 oz coffee
    crackers
    olives
    5 lb sugar
    milk
    2 salad dressing
    tortilla chips
    2 cocoa
    graham crackers
    jelly
    12 pk soda
    3 lbs bananas

I said in my last post that I was at $294 so with this I should be at $322 but my financial binder says $352 so I must have forgot to post a receipt or two on this thread.
That makes my total for food in 2009, $2493. That's an average of $208 a month, $12 per person per week(for Amy's benefit). I think with a garden in 2010 I can get us down to $10 per week.~

I made one last trip for the year. I went ahead and bought some items to begin the new year with. Hopefully that means I can skip grocery shopping for the first week on 2010. It would be interesting to see what I spend in a year. I will work on that in 2010. I spent $54 today (Amy that included $40 for diapers, I feel your pain).

    diapers
boneless skinless chicken breast (didn't need, but 1.65 a pound)
    buns
    country ham (new years lunch)
    free HBA pads and shampoo
    bananas
