The New Year has begun. Time for new goals and challenges. Let's get the ball rolling on the Change Jar and Penny Challenge for 2010! I have three separate jars: one for quarters; one for nickels and dimes; and one for pennies. Just drop your coins into the jars and come back here and post your progress. What will you be saving for in 2010?
Thanks Emily! I am going to empty out my jars from 2009 and start fresh today. All my change will be going into one jar and it will be desposited into my DS's university account.
This seems like a good idea. What I'll do is start 2 jars...one for pennies, nickels and dimes only, and the other for quarters only. The quarters will go towards my EF, and the other change jar will be a savings collection for something nice like a meal out as a family.
~Last year our jar totaled $86.50. It's a small jelly jar so I wrap and deposit it all year. This year though, I want to use it toward something. Something fun for the family but I'm not sure what yet. ~
I have a quarter one and nickels, dimes and pennies one. I have well over $200 between the both (I already have 2 full quater ones) but I'm literally saving my pennies for out vacation to NY and CT this summer so I'm not gonna open until then (June 2010). We'll see how much I can come up with until then!! I'm hoping to be able to pay for our plane tickets with it?!?!! Hey, a girl can hope
I'm in! I am saving my change for a vacation, for the boys and I! It may take a few years but at least I'm trying! I have quite a bit of change in it already, but none is wrapped! So I'm just going to continue and keep a running total for my challenge, every time I wrap and exchange it for paper money I'll add it to my total. I plan on keeping up with what I can on a monthly basis! I think I'll be able to see sunny Florida, before my kids graduate High school, LOL( They are 10 and 8 right now!)
I'm in. We've been saving all our coins in a big wine jug. It's all going towards a cruise for us. Figure if we can fill it up, it'll be about $400. I'll count today.
I like QM's idea of quarters for one thing and other change for other things. I never can decide what to do with my change. Most times I just wrap it and put it away for "something". Quite a few times,I've given it to my sister when she has gone to a foreign country for her ministry. The pennies I give to DH,I can't be bothered with them.
I think I would be more inclined to start some kind of an account if I didn't have to wrap the money first. I don't live near a bank that counts it for you. I am not comfortable with the credit unions requirement that I put my name, address, and account number on the wrappers.
I'll try to think of something.
Saved $303.74 in change in 2009! Will keep saving change this year as well. I have no idea what I am going to do with it, right now I just put it into my personal savings account and watch it grow.
I have three glass containers - one for quarters, one with a really skinny neck that will only fit dimes and a big wine jug for pennies and nickels. Shall just continue to keep adding to them all. All monies will be used for personal fun money - hopefully for a vacation/cruise for DH and me!!
I'm up for this too. I rarely carry cash so I do not have much change usually but when I do I add it to a small tin. I have seen the banks that count the change for you as you drop it in but I do not think I will invest in one... just yet anyway.
Took the small amount of change I had to the bank on Thur .. $8.00+ something.
Added $1.39 as seed money after running payday (THur)
Added more change today.
I save all my change in a small plastic globe bank. Half full it is about $25.00 ... it's never been full LOL
I take it to the bank once a month and let their machine count it. I use the money on whatever I need it for, sometimes it is additional groceries or lunch out.
Count me in. I am not 100% certain what it will be used for but hope to use for an Alaska vacation.
I will put into a saving account each time it hits either 100 or 200 and see how it goes.
I just wrapped and counted and have a grand total right now of 225.00.
Will put into saving account prior to end of the month. Need to decide what bank to use for this account first
I'm in! Depositing $30 in savings acct. on Monday - that's what I have for 2009 left. Starting 2010 with $3.50... I will save it if possible, or use it if needed.... goal is to save it, tho.
I will join this challenge again. I save all my change together in one of the count-as you-go jars. In late Nov or early Dec, I take it to the coin machine at the grocery store, and cash it in for a gift card to use towards holiday shopping. (There is no fee when you use the change to buy a gift card.)
Jar currently stands at $9.13, and will update my signature throughout the year.
That's a lot of change for just a few months tripleb! Way to go!
