We have lower rates at non peak hours which is night time. I run my dishwasher when I go to bed at 11pm. The Kilow's are cheaper. I don't use the heat dry on the dishwasher so that helps save $ also.
I only use cold water for my laundry. I do use the dryer but I try and use that in the evenings if I can. I hang out wash when the weather permits.
We have a timer on our hot water heater. Our hot water heater is electric and the timer turns on 2 times a day and heats the water only at the times we have set. That helps save $ the hot water heater doesn't keep reheating itself all the time. Our time is set for 4 hours in the morning and 4 hours in the evening. We used this for years. We had 4 kids at home and it worked fine. If you really need hot water and the time is off and tank is empty with hot water you can go switch the time to on and it will heat the water. You just have to remember to go back and flip the switch back to the timer.
We have the same timer on our swimming pool filter.

This is very true! I just received my yearly re-cap from my electric company. My off-peak usage is greater than 50% consistently thru-out the year. My total savings was greater than $1K
