I've started this thread for anyone who has made a goal to pay off a certain debt(s) by the last day of the year to keep us focused, to aid and add encouragement and to allow us to toot our own horn as we get closer to our personal goals.
There are no rules here. We aren't following D Ramsay baby steps to the T. Most of us will be modified DR or not even DR at all.
The DR 12/12/12 project thread can be found in Debt Management in the DR room if you are looking for a more structured debt thread.
So, in February I will pay off the camper, a credit card and start on the $3800 CC (blech gork ack!) for this year. I hope to do more but I will be increasing my savings at $600 a month also so unless some money shows up with dhs new position this is my plan.
12/31/12 will see 3 debts gone and savings increased.
Not sure that I can pay my one credit card off by Dec2012 but I plan to put $200 on it every month. That should take care of a big chunk of the balance.
I also set up auto deposit of $50 to my emergency fund.Talking to DH about that is like talking to the wall.
Not getting the debt paid in a year has no bearing on this thread. We are talking about the journey and how we are getting there and putting our best step forward toward that goal.
Post away!
By the end of February I will pay off my Dell account and my Amazon Store Card account. The Amazon account is 6 mos same as cash & that will make it well within the 6 mos .
Going to look things over and see where else it will lead me...
I'm with Russ....this is the year I will see light at the end of the tunnel. I have my daughter's wedding in May and then both cars are paid for this year! I'm on board this train!!!
I plan on paying off several doctor bills (3-4) off totaling around $2000, hopefully by May. I also plan on saving up an extra $500 on my car. It isn't much, but that is my goal for now. Hopefully I can revisit that goal and increase it soon.
I sold about $100 extra stuff on Facebook yard sale sites in Jan. Our baby will be off the expensive formula within a month! Hoping all these will help!
Here is to hoping that by 12/31/12 i will have my credit card just about paid off and still have money in my savings account. I have just over $3700.00 in credit card debt on one card. This week i will be writing a check for $275.00 for the payment. Thanks Cricket for starting this thread!!
I'm in. Here are my goals for the end of the year:
1. Pay off last car loan - last payment is already scheduled for August.
2. Pay off basement remodel - this is on a 0% credit card that is good until November, paying $500/month to get it done by October.
3. This is the big one - pay off enough of the mortgage to get rid of PMI. I need to pay down another $9600 in principle to do this. I'm not sure if I'll make it, but should be able to come close. We already pay an extra $140 per month, but I'll need to pay an extra $550 per month to make this goal.
Feb 1 can't get here fast enough! Fed tax refund is due to hit the checking account.
In a bit of a twist, instead of tossing it in the savings for the 3mo fund, I am going to
1) pay off both car insurances for the remainder of this year (mine just renewed last month, his is June so has a few months left on it)
2) pre-pay the electric for the remainder of the year (we're on a budget plan)
3) pay 1 month ahead on the health insurance, cable and phone bills to give us that cushion
I'll be able to do some serious denting to my 12/12/12 project after that!
"found" another $59 to add to my snowball... so sent it to the SL. I don't usually make small payments throughout the month, but I just want to see the balance go down as fast as possible!
Good job ya'll. I am waiting for the deposit to clear to the bank....
Tomorrow I hope to have some small steps forward to add. I have all my(dh) checks mapped out. It's the waiting thats killing me!
I did add $47 to the 3rd savings account today if that counts lol.
