For those of us who have been slacking off a bit (and I include myself in that group), starting July 1st, this is a challenge to spend just one month being "hyper-aware" of our habits, good and bad, and to try to make the former outweigh latter.
If you think you can be better about saving, spending wisely, stockpiling, using up what you have more efficiently, not wasting, this is the challenge for you.
Can you unleash your frugal diva for one month? If so, step up and throw your name into the ring. Starting July 1st, you'll be asked to document, on this thread, how you have put your money where your mouth is (or, actually, how you have put your money to much better use <g>).
Bonus points for anyone who comes up with a tangible goal (i.e, cut my grocery budget in half this week; make it through the month without spending any extra money; making all meals at home).
Oh, I am sooooo happy you are starting this thread. I have been thinking about "renewing" my vows from the first of the year. I will revisit my earlier posts this year and come back with my list.
I have gotten really lax/sloppy about FOOD WASTE............but gotta think on it........too much stuff going on right now.......am trying to take precautions that it doesn't happen as often!!
I need this as my 'little white boy' got into a piece of MOLDED NUT BREAD that was in the compost bag .........today!! So.......could have a 'pukey kennel' in the morning!! And it was all I could go to keep a straight face when he had CRUMBS on his chin and on top of his nose!!! He must have DOVE IN!!
I'm in too! We go on vacation at the end of the July and I have several goals I need to meet before we go! July will be a total no spend/no eating out month so we can squeeze extra money out of the budget for vacation!!
Only a few days left before the challenge starts!!! Time to dust off that change jar, make up a new batch of HM laundry detergent, and channel your inner Laura Ingalls....
Continue on with the 1lb a week weight loss challenge (come join us on our thread)!!!
I planted this huge garden with the intention of processing everything that comes out of it. Right now it's got me moving and shakin' (no complaints here at all - trust me)... My goal is to make sure that I properly address every tiny thing that I pick and let nothing go to waste, coz I didn't have the time to get it taken care of.
One of my major health goals has been addressed as of this morning. I scheduled my mammogram - end July!! Well overdue, but I am back on track. Think I will keep track of accomplishments.
-Keep my household on a "food stamps" budget for the month (approx $280) but still eat healthy. For whatever reason, I always associate budgeting with eating more cheap carbs, but it won't let me reach goal #2, which is...
-Get under 240 pounds by the end of July. According to Myfitnesspal, this is doable.
-No needless spending for me. We have everything we need aside from a slender list of groceries that need to be replenished. Nothing else.
-Create a happy birthday celebration for DH without breaking the bank.
My main.....and probably ONLY goal will be.................NO FOOD WASTE!!!
This is where I have 'slacked off' to the point that I am becoming ashamed.................
Have been doing real good for eating at home........so am happy with that part.
Any other planning for July is just a lost cause.........garden doing HORRIBLE.............budget is a lost cause due to new roof, venting, and gutters.
 How about my Laura Ingals wool...............???? Don't want to put a 'goal' on that though..........other than 'maybe' to not buy any more.........unless it is a good color or plaid.........like today!!! ::ack:
My main goal will be to turn the spigot off on frivolous spending. I have been far too quick to whip out the cc lately.
I will also be joining others here in trying to make more of what I have, food-wise, including utilizing produce from my garden. (And fortuitously for this thread, a friend of mine just told me he is going to be out of town for several days next week, and has told me to feel free to visit HIS garden and to harvest anything that is ripe!)
MM, WAY TO GO on the mammogram. Too many of us put our health last on our list of priorities.
ABL, one of the various things this site is good for is coming up with frugal ways to have fun! I am sure you will get a lot of suggestions for things you can do to help your DH celebrate that won't require you to sell off a kidney.
1. No buying books, will use library or the books in my bookshelf.
2. Improve making a list for the grocery store and also plan meals
3. Curb impulse spending.
I think that is a good start it hit most of my weaknesses.
Less than two days until the challenge starts! I am prepping by getting the house all picked up and organized, so I can concentrate on my goals starting this Sunday.
I am trying to diligently use up all the stuff that has been hanging around in the freezer for awhile. I need to free up this space for all the veggies coming from the garden.
WTG on scheduling the mammo MM! I schedule mine for my birthday month (January) each year! Not the funnest thing to do for my birthday but getting that clean bill of health each time makes for a great start to the year for me!!
So many great goals listed, I'll be adding some of them to my list as well! I'm also cleaning and clearing out the house so I can start off July without any extra complications!!
My only spending for July will be for bills, food and gas for the cars. My menu plan is almost done and I have the menu plan set for our camping vacation at the end of July. I'll do a little extra shopping each time I go this month to get things ready for the trip so I don't have to spend a lot of money at one time just before we go!
