Anyone wanting to join in and post what they have added to their piggy jar jump in. Also if you wish to post what you might be saving that change for it might help to keep you accountable. You can start totally new or start with what you already have in it
I've done this the last two years but have been terrible at recording it! I'm planning to take my change in this week (probably Wednesday) and deposit it. Will use whatever it is to pay down our debt.
I'm planning on working on this challenge again this year and will again put whatever my ending total is toward debt.
Hello - I read all these challenges daily and in 2016 I am going to start posting on some of them. You are all so motivating and entertaining.
I save change and roll it as it adds up. I also save 5 dollar bills in an envelope and when I get 100.00 I seal the envelope and put in a drawer. It sure came in handy this past year when things were tight but now I am starting again.
So as of today i have 15.50 in rolled change and 15.00 in fives.
I do participate in the change jar, just don't post on the thread, and also do not use a lot of cash, so I still have my paltry amount from last year but add to it throughout the year. It will either go to pay off something at the end of the year, or in savings. It will totally depend on what I have left at the end of the year that I still owe on. I did find a dime while out that will be added to the jar. I also am trying to save 1's and 5's to build up a small cash reserve here too.
My change jar savings were eaten away earlier in the year with my soda addiction and junk food purchases. What was left over at Christmas time was put in 1st grandsons piggy bank I gave him for Christmas present. I now drink free tap water instead of soda and am trying to eat healthier, so less junk food. I want to rebuild the change jar and use the savings to help with next years Christmas budget.
I'd like to join this challenge also. I have a tall container from Pub Mix pretzels that I am using. Once it's filled I will cash it in and then start over. I started today with the change from my wallet.
Our change jar currently has $248 in it (it auto counts money as you add it) and pennies are kept in a different piggy bank. We don't plan to change it in, we will just continue to add to it in 2016. We don't really have a specific goal in mind for it yet. We just look at is as another way to save money.
I am in. I usually save quarters and under for our grand-daughter and then the loonies and toonies (CAD) for the things that I want but we are expecting our second grand-daughter in April so will add the loonies and under to their bank and then save the toonies for me. Good luck all. Love reading how everyone is doing.
I am totally in! I need to roll and count what I have first! I know I already have alot in there! I always save my change but now with things being so tight after the holidays, every penny counts! I think I will save it for something fun for us as a family to do. It is yet to be determined what that will be though.!
Starting balance for 2016 is $42 for my $2 coins. Rolled up 2 years worth of $1 and$2 coins which totaled $1325. Will be taking that to the bank . Have not decided what to do with it at this point but am sure I will figure something out. I may put it towards some of the money that I want to put against the mortgage. I sure hope that they will eventually come out with a $5 coin. Then I would have a really good time.
I have tomorrow off. I am going to sit down and dump out my large coffee can full of change, and wrap it all and hopefully take it all to the bank and cash it in and put it in an envelope and see what kind of fun thing we want to do with it eventually.
Count me in....I cashed in my jar at the beginning of the year....got $105.00!!!! Started over in the new year...$6.96 so far....every penny I pick up goes into this jar.....
Going to be following this...but instead of keeping track yearly. Im going to keep track monthly and at the end of the month Im going to buy gift cards for Christmas or put towards our savings funds.
Going all out commando style to get ready to move! Starting new change jar. Will use all change saved to add to getting our car loan paid off.Getting ready for retirement and no debt is great way to start. At end of month will put all saved change towards the loan. Loan is at credit union and can prepay balance no charge.
Had to put my change jar out of sight, too easy to grab a couple quarters when leaving for work for the pop machine. Need to stop that!
