Default As a follow up to the 2006 Debt Reduction Challenge...

... how much did you pay off this year? I need to sit down with DH and go through our books to come up with a total, but I'm guessing it's around $7,000 for us. I'll come back and post when I have the total.

We paid off over $18k on our HELOC this year. We are SO glad to have that payment gone. We carry no balance on our credit cards from month to month. Now, onto the mortgage.

Started the year owing 38k in non-mortgage debt and will end the year owing less than 18k on the student loan. Plus, we saved $6k for our emergency fund, so a 26k slide to the positive.

Paid off $4558 all in CC debt.

I don't remember how much we owed on CCs at the first of the year. I know it was over $10,000. I just know I was determined to get rid of it and we did. Paid off 7/7 CCs. We also had a loan that we owed over 10,000 on right now we have one more payment to make on it!!

I paid off Firestone ($998) and Victoria's Secret ($350) Paid off Discover Card (then transfered some back to it from MBNA as they are giving a 2% interest v the 26.9% for MBNA) ($4000) and MBNA went from $15980 to $ 9845 ($3500 went from MBNA to Discover so I was only paying interest really on MBNA this year). Not bad but hopefully '07 will find MBNA almost gone and Discover card paid off.

By the end of this month, I'll have paid off $ 1717.30. Pretty exciting as this will be the first year that I've left with less debt than I've entered it with.

I also was able to build up an emergency fund although, I need to rebuild it after some small emergencies this past month. And moved back home, which cost more than I expeceted.

I did pretty good this year. Next year hopefully I'll have a much higher number to report at the end of the year.

Wow, I'm so glad to figure this all up! We paid off my DH's jeep and a good portion of my Honda for $12,172.08, credit card debt gone of 4188.95, paid cash for a new washer and dryer for $700 at Costco and spent $6110.50 towards our new house. We have an additional $2500 saved to go towards building permits. That's over $25,000! DH got an extra job to be able to do this plus we threw most of my income at it. At this time we only owe about $3500 on my car which we intend to concentrate on paying off before we
have to start making mortgage payments. Looking forward to 2007 and building a new house. We've been doing our leg work while the property gets ready for clearing so that we can get the best prices for building!

i just totaled it all up and was surprised. We paid $1586 in cc debt, $900 in student loan debt, $1200 in taxes and saved $3000. We recently bought a newer used car and although we paid off a bunch of car debt, we took more on so I guess it cancels it out. All this on a variable income that is nothing that can be counted on.

Iam thinking around the 2000 to 3000 dollar range.
Which is good because we had a small income til about July.
Car will be paid for in Jan 07, and credits cards are paid almost I say in full by June, then NO DEBT!holy smokes!

~Our 'debts' are our car loan and mortgage. I paid extra every month and reduced our debt by $4300 in 2006. I'm aiming to reduce it by $6000 in 2007.~

Wow. It's taken me forever to get back to my own thread!

    But...

We paid off $13,000 worth of debt this year. We also increased our savings (including retirement accounts) by $25,000!
