I'm going to join in if that's ok? I always seem to have loose pennies that just get put back in my purse and spent, maybe I can actually save something substantial if I put them in a jar!!

We have had change jars for a few years. In June of last year, we gave our son the change jar. We had collected for two years. He had just returned from a church mission, so this was his spending money until he started working. He had over $500.

We started over in June. We have one jar for pennies and one for all other coins. Our youngest son will get this jar in two years when he returns from his mission.

I'm new but I would like to join this challenge. I think I will have to keep all the change in one jar though. I have to keep it out of sight out of mind or I know someone in my house will raid it to feed a vending machine somewhere. Amy

I took an old plastic yogourt dish. When I started I put the change I had in it with a piece of paper that I wrote the total on. So now every time I add some (about once a week) I just write the new total so I don't have to recount.

    Default First Change-In

OK so most of the change I have is from 2007 - I never officially joined the challenge but went along in spirit. So dd and I brought it all to the credit union yesterday. They have a free change counter and we had about $44 worth! Now I feel naked without it, but it's in the SAVINGS account and the family understands that its the vacation fund not to be dabbled with. So here we go again. Hoping we can gather enough change for a FEB/MAR visit to the counter...

SCORE!! I was responding to another post on this forum about how I've been lousy when it comes to using coupons. Just for grins I thought I would check my coupon box and see how many bazillion have expired. TONS OF CHANGE was in the bottom of that box!! It is all going into the Jar Challenge!!

I will count it up and see how much. thank you Frugal Folks for these ideas!!

The teens have spotted the change jar.

So I had a situation where the one teen wanted to join the other one at the movies. (the other one had a free ticket from a friend) I offer for them to do up to $10 of chores every month to have spending $ for these situations. She hadn't done squat in many months of this offer standing. That's $10 a month, every month, that they can earn. But of course she asked me for $ for the movies to which I reminded her I don't do credit. In the back of my mind I thought about the change jar and how I probably had enough on hand for her to go but I reminded myself that that wasn't the lesson I was trying to teach. Still, it bugged me when later that day I opened the drawer to put in money to it while she was there. *sigh*

Anyone else struggling to keep their hands off this change drawer? Mine isn't even very much!
