Knitters---What brands of yarns do you use/like
For some projects, I'm willing to drop the dollars for a little more expensive yarn. Like for gifts.
Most times, I try to find quality for less, but that's hard.
Which do you buy and where?
I'm sure this has been discussed before, but I'm fairly new.

i really like the Lion Brand of yarns, but they're SUPER expensive where I live. So I get those only when on sale.

I tend to go to Joann's or other nearby craft stores and get yarn... when it's on sale!!
there are the "pounders" you can buy... which are great (on sale!) of basic colours you use frequently.
Jiffy is good. Coats & Clark (TLC or Red Heart) is what I get most often.
I can't use anything w/wool in it as I'm allergic.
But I'm always looking for nifty things to make... other than clothing.

I like Knitpicks.com
They have nice quality yarn for a smaller price.
We won't talk about my addiction to handpainted sock yarns from Etsy.com

perSue, I have been using Lion brand and have liked a lot of their stuff. They have a good selection of cottons and cotton blends, too. And my family loves the chenille for making throws. As my boys moved out, they've asked for one of their own.
YankeeMom, I looked at that Knitpicks site and LOVE it--what great prices and the yarns look great. I like the way they have them lined up along the left column according to yarn weight, then fiber-type, and etc. A LOT easier to find what you're looking for without having to look at every page! Some sites are set up so weird.
I looked at that Esty site. I can see how you got addicted to the handpainted sock yarns. Beautiful, but $18 and up per ball.... I think someday I will try some of it though, to see what luxury feels like, LOL!

Lion Brand is my fav too (espeically when it's on sale
) I also like to buy Red Heart brand (but I am careful if I'm making scarves that it is the soft kind and not bristly)

I really like Red Heart TLC. I recently tried Vanna's new yarn and was very impressed! Oh, and I also enjoy Bernat "4". I love worsted weight, can you tell?!
One site I really like for ordering on-line is www.knitting-warehouse.com, their shipping is $5.99 no matter how much you order. They also have competitive prices.
I'm on a yarn diet right now, so I haven't ordered anything in awhile.

when i go to the craft store, of course I've gotta "stop by" the yarn section "just to look"... hehehe
and i ALWAYS stop by to feel the lion brand homespun... i LOVE how soft it is.
I made a couple scarves for inlaws last year and they loved them!
now I want some yarn
LOL

I also love lion brand homespun bur i also am in love with bernat Satin or satin sport yarn. Bernat Satin makes a wonderful baby blanket. Homespun also makes a nice warm blanket for winter and of course hats and scarfs. I also buy Sensation yarn only at Jo-Ann's. It is like working with cotton candy. I try very hard only to buy yarn when it is on sale. I have to admit I did go to Jo-ann's and pick up a skein of homespun last week. Yes i am trying really hard to use up my stash but i fall off the wagon a lot. LOL

Me, too.
I have to especially avoid the shop that's on our way to the next 'big' town. She has some really gorgeous quality yarn, but has the highest price stickers I've ever seen. I think she's the only shop like hers around (meaning really high quality/foreign imports/many types of yarn)------so she knows she can up the price for those looking for certain kinds for a project.
I have to make sure I have some yarn around and needles and don't get bored, so I don't go in there and shop my brains out.

I am a slow knitter, so I splurge on yarn.
However, I'm thrifty enough to not want to pay msrp.
I've been finding wonderful deals on Ravelry destash. Even the popular Socks That Rock, I have found some skeins ... in colors I wanted ... for less than $20 apiece.
But, before you ban me from FRUGAL village: that $19 skein of yarn gives me 2-3 weeks entertainment value -- AND I get a nice pair of socks at the end of the month!

oops ... I didn't answer the question, did I?
I like
Opal sock yarn;
Noro Kureyon;
Lorna's Laces.
But, my new love is Socks That Rock.
