    Default Birthday Socks

Last year, for her birthday I made my niece a pair of socks and a purse. This year, when asked what she wanted Aunt Heather to get her for her birthday...she requested more knitted socks

So here are this year's birthday socks:

Those are so nice! What's the trick to knitting socks? I can only knit scarves because they are a straight line and I don't have to connect them!

I taught myself to knit socks using Silver's Sock Tutorial. It's so easy, lots of pictures and laymen-term explanations. All you need to know how to do is knit, purl, and cast on. The rest she shows you in the tutorial.

Great socks. I have to admit I have an addiction to knitting socks right now. Everyone is getting them for Christmas this year.

That's how you knit in a circle. Either with one circular needle (called "magic loop" method - my personal favorite), two circular needles, or 4-5 double pointed needles.

You could definitely do it. The hardest part is joining & getting the first round done, teaching your hands how to hold the needles. You're still knitting with only two needles at a time. The other ones are just "holding" the stitches until you get to them.

I have too many nieces to ever consider birthday socks.

But yours are lovely. What is the yarn? And what pattern?
