Question for the sock knitters
I've haven't done a pair of socks for years(when I was 12 and my Granny had to turn the heel)and those I did with 4 needles but a knitting friend told me recently that it is common now to use 5 needles as it aids in heel turning.Do any of you use 5 needles-is it more cumbersome-and does it help in heel turning?

depending on what needles i have available ( i have three kids that raid my stash) I prefer to use 4.

I prefer to use 4 as well. It always feels like 5 is just too many to deal with. I can't see how it would be easier to turn the heel with 5 vs 4.

I started off using 4 needles, then went to 2 circular needles, but now I only want to do socks on one long circular (magic loop).
