I knit with a couple groups...one at a civic arts centre and one at my local yarn shop. The one at the LYS is expensive though...too much temptation while knitting. I've decided to let it go for now and just do the group at the arts centre.

The group at the arts centre isn't specific to knitting. It's for anyone who wants to do whatever type of handwork they like. So stitchers are there, sometimes quilters hand quilting or appliqueing, knitters, spinners (we take drop spindles), etc. We just go hang out and have a good time.

It can be intimidating when you first join. It was for me. I was relatively inexperienced and junior to most everyone else by 10 - 20 years! But I found my groups very friendly and willing to help a newbie.

I'm jealous!! I wish there was something here - perhaps if I can find just one person, we could have that at least!!

I agree the ones at the LYS can be too much temptation. But I haven't let that stop me yet

Our LYS also sponsors knit nights at a local grocery store, at a wine shop (afraid to go to this one!), and at a local restaurant/pub. All of the knit nights, whether at the shop or elsewhere, are free.

I always find joining a new group somewhat intimidating, especially if they're large ones, but after three or four times I felt like I fit right in.

Our library hosts 2 different groups, I think. I went once or twice, but it isn't really my thing. Partly because I am a morning person; in the evening, I'm not a sparkling conversationalist.

Hi Early Bird! I noticed in your signature that you're making a Tweedle Dee scarf. Is this a reference to the Tweedle Dee yarn? What is the pattern like? I have some Tweedle Dee in my stash. Some of it is being used in a mistake rib scarf, but I have more of it on hand and am looking for ideas on how else to use it.

I know this thread's a tad old but yeah, I go to a knitting/crocheting group. It's once a month at my local Barnes & Noble. We occasionally get people coming up and asking questions or simply strange looks. Last night's meeting, there was a woman who pointed us out to her daughter. It was kinda cute. We might have possibly started something there...

I may stop in and see if the local arts center minds if I stop in on occasion and do some work there. (Although I might just go to the AC to do some writing like I've been meaning to.)
