You will have many more choices for patterns if you learn to read the written out instructions. Try a google search "how to read crochet patterns." Many sites come up and one of them will probably let the gobbledygook start to make sense. It really isn't hard, once you crack the code and one of these should be able to do that for you.

Gobs and gobs of free stuff on the internet. Just google what you need............free patterns..........free instructions of all sorts.
Good luck........I am a beginner too. I guess the only way we will learn that is by doing it.........I can 'read them' - (the literal translations here) and know the stitches.........just never sure exactly 'where' the stitch goes on some things. But I keep on trying.........

Check out this site on YouTube:
YouTube - tjw1963's Channel
There are lots of videos - some in slow motion.
She also has a blog - you can get to it thru the YouTube site.
I think she had a segment on how to read crochet patterns.
This is how I learned - it's a great help to watch someone else actually do it.
The site isn't very well organized, so you might have to search for the technique you're looking for.
But once you find it, you will be "hooked" (pun intended LOL)
I just learned to crochet about a month ago, and I've made 4 scarves, a hat, and have started on a throw.Jean
