Default knits vs crochet and yars amts needed

one of the cool things about my job is i meet alot of seniors and learn some interesting things from them.

today one of my pts a woman in her 80s who was showing me her current projects told me i should re-learn how to knit because it takes 1/2 the yarn to make something knitting than crocheting .
of course this would be an interetsing fact to know if true because one could make their supplies go further if it was true

just was wondering if this was true or not ?

( she is a teeny bit confused and alot fiesty and i have a feeling if she told me the grass was pink i better just agree with her lol

( my good deed for the day - getting on the floor and finding a missing ball of yarn that rolled under her couch for her lol )

Crocheting takes about 1/3 more yarn than knitting.

That was very nice of you to retrieve her yarn - I'm sure she appreciated it!

OUCH (for the $).........I was just reading that somewhere.

Really sad as I like most knitting patterns better than some of the crochet.........gotta get going on my learning to knit!

Depending on the pattern -- crochet takes a lot more yarn. Sadly, I crochet better than I knit.

Yup. That was one of the motivating factors for me to teach myself knitting

I guess I just have expensive tastes. I've always preferred crocheting to knitting, especially for afghans and that's all I make now.

My knit/crochet group joked that in a contest to get the most yarn, the crocheters would win out because crochet seems to go faster than knitting. But I can see where crochet using more yarn.
