I would think shower curtain rings would be too small. I was looking at the purse handles, about 6" in diameter. The ones I really liked weren't a ring, but a wide U shape with rings. However, it was a lacquered bamboo and would be pretty slippery for a non-stationary perch.

And now, back to the regularly scheduled program. I have laid out a mostly random color placement for the afghan. Not random to the degree that I did not allow two hexagons of the same color to touch. I did a layout that should be approximately the right size, but may need to lose a bit or expand a bit. If this one works, its (gasp) 238 hexagons and 18 half hexagons.

Yeah, I was looking at other bags to see how I might figure in a lining if I were to do a handbag... not sure I am ready to tackle that yet. These bags will be good for beach towels and such so airflow is critical as is an escape for sand

Bird swings, oh yeah duh. Of course these rings are too small but I did see a bamboo-handled purse for .99 at Salvation Army resale this weekend. Considered buying it but have no immediate use for the handles.

Good idea, D-C (was that on the other thread?), I am really looking forward to garage sale season to recycle some old purse hardware, looked for some in the city this weekend to no avail

I was able to pick up some of those rings today at walmart suma....they were marked down to .25 for four! SCORE! Our fabric/yarn section at Walmart is getting a total re-vamp...wow...AMAZING! They are even bringing back embroidery thread and cross stitch kits...I don't know how we got so lucky but is sure is A NICE section now...the yarn/fabric/accessories are top notch.

Hexagon afghan bites the dust. Too Much Work. I crocheted and assembled a few hexagons. To keep them small I was using an H hook, and they were stiff, and I really didn't like the way they were sewing together. I tossed the ones I had already atttached and woven in the ends. I'm taking the assemblage of colors I had pulled for it and this morning started one of my go to patterns. It is much better, much faster, and guaranteed to work. I got six rows done, 3 color strips, and really like it. So finally I'm on my way with this project.

Good score, D-c! Our yarn section is good at Walmart but they removed the fabric section and replaced it with precut type fleece and a little bit of other stuff.

Sorry about the hex pattern but glad you've found something that works for your afghan in YOUR colors Which of your fave patterns are you using?

ETA: I am back to working on the Watercolor Afghan.

I'm using the old stand-by spike pattern. I've used it off and on for probably 35 years. Here is an example I spotted in my posts:

Finished the green afgan. I've started another afgan, this one for myself. It's Caron Simply Soft Harlequin. I love the jewel-like colors. The downside is it's only 4 oz per skein and one of the pricier yarns (atc). I think I'll need more but I also think I'll wait to see how many more skeins.

lol - I do have to take pictures of my creations in order to post them. I used RH Hunter Green for this last one. I also recently realized I've developed a liking for the more jewel toned colors over some of the others.

I just ran across this on Pinterest. It looks pretty simple to me.
I don't see why you couldn't put the liner down into your crocheted bag and stitch around the top on your sewing machine.

    Thanks WJC, good instructions.

Nothing was said about sewing it to the yarn.......the other things I have read state that it is best hand sewn. I tried sewing fabric to some filet crochet and didn't turn out too great........ripped it out. Even with a long stitch, it rippled.

I think I can 'bite the bullet' and do some hand stitching as I have a lot of felted sweaters.........so totes are in my future.

If you hear screaming............that is just me "hand stitching"...........not my favorite thing.
