For the lapghans, how many repeats wide are you guys doing? How long do you generally make a lapghan?
I think mine is 168 for the starting chain .... Not sure since it isn't in front of me. I will just keep adding rows until I like the length. I am using all spring colors and will probably have it drapped over the couch in the summer. Some rainy days one is needed.

Aha, okay that will be the same wide as I started - did 168 plus the 3 for the first turn. Thanks! Can't wait to see it, sounds like fun colors.

On lapghans, I generally shoot for about 36x48, but the ripple pattern, with 8 repeats for me with I comes out to 38" which is fine. On the last one I did, with the rows to make it come out even on the sequence it was about 51" if I remember.

I'm doing no crocheting at all right now - I've been madly researching birds. I've decided on finches, if I can find them when I'm ready. I ordered the cage Wednesday and it should be here by the end of next week, so probably Monday I'll start gathering up the inside stuff I'll need like perches. When that's all settled, I'll get back to crocheting. But it's on hold for a while yet.

Thanks Donna, I was studying your lapghan pics and I figured they were 8 repeats/ripples - thank you so much for the confirmation. Looking at this one, I'll see when I'm done, but I think I could have made it a little smaller if I was making it for my mom for her sitting around or something like that. And I know you make yours for wheelchair use so the smaller size is understandable there, too. This one is originally intended for my very tall son so I decided to make it wider and longer and aimed for the size that companies make their fleece blankets - Most of those I've found that we like are 50x60. This should turn out a little wider and longer than that.

And have fun with the finches - I am a total bird lover but have never had any in the house. I think it sounds fabulous.

Off topic warning - Sumacaroni - I'm having wonderful fun. I've had parakeets and cockatiels, but never finches. They are less time intensive and quieter, so should be easier for me and my apartment neighbors alike. I can't wait to get them. I've been without pets for a long time. These aren't one on one pettable pets, but will add life and cheerfulness. They sound like just what I need for my situation now. When I get them, I post a pic over on the pet forum.

Everyone may now return to the regular scheduled programming.

Well, that is very sad. I went to the Michael's 15 minutes away only to find out that it is closed, paper over all the windows and a sign saying to go to the next nearest store - another 1/2 hour away. Nope, not happening. I was just at this store a month ago and there was no indication that they were closing up shop. Another yarn outlet bites the dust.

I just hate when that happens.

I went through that with my bead store. Unfortunately, it's been about seven years and I still haven't come up with an alternative.

Well I'm at 70 rows of 114 and I'm runing out of yarn. Started with two of the Caron One Pound - one blue, one taupe - and a variegated skein, 12 oz. I think. Hope I have enough to keep plugging along until Wednesday when I'm off work and have time to run to the city 1/2 hour a way the opposite direction of work. If not, I'll probably pick some dishcloth patterns to work on in the meantime.

I finally got it together to start a little crocheting again this morning. I'm working on the purple lapghan. It's almost solid with a little variegated. Purple is ok, but not a really favorite color. I hope I use of the last bit of it on the very last row. That does happen once or twice a lifetime, ya know!

My usual pattern is to use the last bit about two rows from the end and have to go buy another whole skein and then have even more leftovers to use. I'm afraid I'm not going to have quite enough, unless there's a skein or leftover ball hanging out somewhere that I'm overlooking. Time will tell. It will at least use up virtually all of the variegated, I think.

The finch cage comes Thursday. Can't wait!

Wow, completely tore out 4 rows and reworked two last night. Night before last I tied on the variegated and went to bed thinking - No, that's not right, I need to change to blue when I start next time but I'm too tired, will change it later. Blindly picked it up and started working last night, got through 4 rows when I realized I had not switched to blue! Ergh.

Now I'm very close to out of blue (small ball left) but it is my day off and I have plans to stop and pick up another blue and another taupe if all works as planned today. Should be able to finish up this blue/taupe/variegated this weekend. And I'm excited to start thinking about starting another so I'm gonna go eye up some brighter colors for the next one.

Thanks. I think I'll have to take a look at that. I checked with the yarn company (Red Heart) and they discontinued the color. They don't have any in stock either. Sigh.

That being said, I'll probably frog my project and start over a bit smaller to make the yarn last a bit longer. There's no way I'm giving this afgan away!
