Please help me decipher this afghan pattern !
I'm starting on row 5 and it says "[dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next dc] twice," <---- Huh?! What twice?! the parenthesized stuff or the wording after it??
Thanks for your help! I'm posting this on my FB too! So if you see this over there sorry! =)

I am a novice when it comes to this...but what i see is.
Double crochet in the next double crochet, chain 1, skip next double crochet....maybe it means to do this twice??? I really hope someone comes on and answers LOLDawn

I hate following patterns. I usually look at something already done, and do it on my own.
"[dc in the next dc, ch 1, skip next dc] twice,"
Okay, what I am seeing here is...
do a double crochet in the top of the double crochet next in the row. Then chain one. When you chain one, skip the double crochet spot, that you would have put a stitch in,
repeat this....
so double crochet, chain one, double crochet , chain one.
You do what is in the brackets...
then in this case, it wants you to do it twice total.
so once in the brackets and then one more time.

The "twice" is for the stuff in the brackets..........I agree with LTD.............
Can relate to your pain rebookie.............I still consider myself a
beginner (and probably will for years!!) and will have trouble reading some patterns.
Hugs........and hope you get it right!!
This might help.............I still go back and 'double check' on things sometimes..............love the it is written in "PLAIN ENGLISH" under the pattern inst.

Patterns will usually show stitches to be repeated either in parentheses/brackets, or between asterisks.
