Taking it all apart
Well I had about 15 rows of my afghan done and realized that I was creating my own pattern.
Not exactly what I wanted to do, although next time I might try doing it that way, so last night at about 10:30, I took the whole think apart and started doing it the right way.
Would you have done the same, or just left it and continued on? This is my first try at crocheting and I wanted to get it RIGHT!!!!

Well, your own original pattern would be good too!!
I know what you mean though about, do I go on or do I rip it out. I did that when I was learning years again (believe me it was long time ago so I'd have to relearn). I ended up carrying on and to this day I still look at the afghan and know where the "spot" is!!
For me, I would probably rip it out!!

Definately rip it out!

Sorry you had to do that, but I find it is the best way to learn. On the other hand, creating your own pattern can be fun too!

I rip it out. So far I have had to do it 2x since I accidentally twisted the chain. I just start over and keep trying though.

I most often rip it out. But sometimes i am in a lazy mood and if it makes no difference to the pattern, I leave it, If it makes a difference, I rip it out.

I rip it apart. Unless, I don't really realize I have made the mistake until I am more done than not done. (like my first baby blanket) I decided then that I would just consistently make the same "mistake" and next time I make one similar to it...I have learned what I did wrong and won't do it again.
I just undid a square this morning. I was doing the hdc front and back stitch and noticed I did one stitch a couple of rows down wrong.
The learning process is frustrating for me, but I am feeling much more confident lately and am excited to learn new stitches.
I'm glad you caught what you were doing and you'll be right back to where you were in no time.

I am almost back to where I was and I could have left it, the pattern was actually not bad. But it would have drove me nuts, knowing that the mistake was there. Next time I do this pattern, I'm going to do it my way, but this time I wanted to learn it right.
Sara, sounds like your learning some great new stitches. I got a book on crafts the other day at the library and I couldn't believe how MANY stitches there were for crocheting. Holy smokes, I don't think I'll ever remember all those. I'll need to have a book here ALL the time to refer back too.

A dear friend of mine just sent me some copies of a booklet she has. I think I will be able to understand other stitches better now.
Isn't this fun?
