    Question knitting...holding the yarn??

knitters...How do you hold your yarn?? I have tried following the directions for holding your yarn that i have seen in books and online

around the pinky, under the ring finger, over the middle finger, under the index finger. I can't keep the flow of yarn and i end up giving up on holding it this way. i have seen several pics of the technique to hold the yarn this way, and i simply can't hold it this way. Do you know of another way or can you show a pic of how you hold the yarn??

When I used to knit, I held it over my first finger, under the next two, and over my pinkie....

I think it all boils down to what feels comfortable to you though....

Melissa, I'm like you. I could never hold it like that either and I can't hold the crochet thread the way it shows in the book. I just hold it over my one finger and thats the way I'm comfortable with it.

Probably the easiest way for you would be to try several different ways and when you find one you feel comfortable with, use it.

Thanks Debbie, I'll give it a try. I have found that so far the method i was trying and variations on it, none felt comfortable and i couldn't seem to "get it". I will give your method a try, thanks!

Cj, I don't hold my crochet yarn anything like the books and directions show. I eventually found one that worked for me. I suppose the same will be true for knitting. I'll give a bunch of methods a try and see. Thanks!

The right way is whatever way is comfortable for you and your yarn is free flowing. Keep trying Melissa, you'll find the best way for you!
