yarn question
Do you roll you skeins, hanks or spools into a ball?? Sometimes i do. My grandmother taught me to do this because sometimes yarn snarls in the way the manufacturer has put it up. So she taught me to do this to check the continuity of the yarn, to unravel the snarls before beginning my work, and to check for breaks in the yarn. I don't always do it, but when I don't i sometimes get snarls and wish i had.

I don't think you are "supposed to" I think it is a habit my grandmother had from when she started knitting "way back when", and she taught me to do it.

No I don't do anything with mine. I just start the wool from the centre of the ball and pull it out of the skein. I don't have any trouble (as of yet) with doing it that way.
I do know many though that do what your grandmother did Melissa. It kinda looks neat as well with a bunch of balls of wool in a basket.

I only reroll it if it is rug yarn or a skein that does not have the easy pull type of skein, otherwise, I don't have that problem too often, and if I do, its not too bad.

Same here. I have a 'wool winder' I got that I have to use with my knitting machines. It works great!Originally posted by mrscornbread

TIP: For those of you who do roll your yarn into balls. A 3.5 ounce skien of yarn rolled into a ball should be about the size of a honey dew melon when you are done!
Do not wrap the yarn tight or you will loose all of the elasticity.~~ Dee ~~
