http://www.thesmartyarns.com/pattern...ngblanket.html
Hooded Receiving Blanket
Designed by Maureen Egan Emlet, courtesy of
Designs For America from Solutia
Size: Approximately 36" x 36".

Sport-weight yarn Jamie Baby (100% Acrylic, 170 yards per 1-1/2 oz. skein) by Lion Brand: 9 skeins each #217 Candy Print. Crochet hook size G/6 (4.25mm) or whatever size needed to get correct gauge; Yarn Needle.
Gauge: 17 sts = 4" in pattern. To save time, take time to check your gauge.
*Yarn requirements suggested in this leaflet are adequate. If you make any adjustments in length or width, or if your stitch gauge differs from the recommendation, then the yarn amount may not be sufficient.
Then follow this:
Ch 151 stitches.
Row 1: Single crochet in 2nd chain from hook (see pic below), double crochet in the next chain, *single crochet in the next chain, double crochet in the next chain* Repeat between * * across row. 150 stitches.

Now hook the yarn again and draw through the remaining 2 loops. You have completed a double crochet!
To make it so all the instructions are on one post a double crochet is this:
Yarn over, insert hook into specified stitch, yarn over draw through 1 loop, yarn over draw through 2 loops, yarn over draw through 2 loops.~~ Dee ~~

Those are the 2 stitches you need to know to do this pattern.
Next stitch do a single crochet, then a double crochet in the next stitch etc... across the row. You will have 150 stitches when you are done.
(mine is a scaled down version

Now you need to chain 1 and turn.
Hook (or yarn over) the yarn and draw through 1 loop. Turn your work. I am right handed and grab it with my left hand and pull towards me. Turn your work in the same direction every time.~~ Dee ~~

Row 2: *Single crochet in the first stitch, double crochet in the next stitch* Repeat between * * across row. 150 stitches.
Chain 1 turn.
Remaining rows - Repeat Row 2.
Row 2 is what is called the 'pattern stitch' in a written pattern. You will now do Row 2 for all remaining rows until you reach the desired length. In this case the pattern calls for you to work until the blanket reaches 35 1/2" from the beginning.~~ Dee ~~

Do you see in the last picture how I am picking up both 'bars' of the stitch? You should always pick up both 'bars' of a stitch unless the pattern tells you to pick up the front of the stitch or the back of the stitch only.
Here is a picture of 2 rows completed.
What you are doing is single crocheting on top of the double crochet of the row below and double crocheting on top of the single crochet of the row below. As you get more rows done, it comes out as a slightly open pattern, yet is very warm.~~ Dee ~~
