recycled sweaters?? *first update at end
I have a sweater in my closet i just haven't been able to part with. I will never ever wear it. Not only is it too small, but it is a "clubbing" sweater ... fuzzy and purple/lilac . sort of shimmery too. Not my style at all. But it was given to me, so i kept it. now, i saw a pair of socks in the "Kohl's" advertisement that I would like to have. DH said i should try to make them. I said i don't have the eyelash yarn....
Here's the socks I want from the store.
*edited, found a bigger pic, and here's the link to their ad, maybe you can find a better pic there http://kohls70shop.crossmediaservice...&pagenumber=24~~ Missy ~~

You seem to pick up crafts easily, Melissa. If you're not going to ever use the sweater anyway, then you have nothing to lose by giving it a shot. Good luck and keep us posted

Thanks for the encouragement everyone! It turns out that unraveling it is harder that it sounds. The seams on the sides were serged using a serger so it isn't all one long piece, but it is comming apart ... slowly. I have managed to keep it in pretty large (at least 20 yd) lengths of yarn so far. It is eyelash yarn so it is hard to see the hand stitching that was done to create some of the shaping. But with my trusty seam ripper and a small pair of scissors, it is comming apart. I wonder how big of a ball of yarn this sweater will yeild when I am done.

If anyone can do it, it's you Missy!! You've inspired me to pull out my needles again - my poor old fingers aren't as nibble as they once were....
Wouldn't look for a pair of socks from me in the near future!

You are brave Melissa! Go for it, what have you got to loose?

Should be a pretty big ball of yarn when you are done, more like 3-5 balls of yarn.

OMG! I LOVE those socks! And the jumper is PERFECT for them.
I'll have a pair
It's strange ~ I just went away and my SIL came and she had a pair of socks just like them, I asked her where she got them, and they cost a fortune (for socks!
)
I SOOOOOOO want some LOL ~ perhaps I should do the charity shops and learn to knit LOL

I think so if i do ankle socks. I winded them pretty tight it seems, or maybe because the yarn is thin? But i think i can get two ankle socks and a hat for my dd. If i can't get that much from them, I will just do the hat and little socks for her.

***I "WINDED" them??? hows about " I wound them pretty tight"...is that right?? sheesh Melisa, time to go back to grammar class!***~~ Missy ~~

Is that from the *whole* sweater Melissa?
If it is, you should easily be able to get a pair of socks out of it.
WTG, you have more patience than me!
