Think she'll grow into it? NOT
http://www.frugalvillage.com/photopo....php?photo=705
I tried to crochet a hat. I learned to mark my rounds because without marking them I was on an endless spiral to nowheresville. rofl
I also learned that I was adding an additional hdc when I should have joined, so the hat was getting wider toward the bottom.
The directions I used had the lace edge on the bottom, but in their picture the lace edge was higher up. When I redo this, I'll move the edge up higher too.
Let's just say that I won't be making many hats in the future. rofl I didn't have decent yarn to make one and it was frustrating.
I loved Alexandra's face though when I put it on her. lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Dee, I had troubles figuring where to join the hdc stitch. I think I added an extra each time around.
The top is just sc and I marked my rounds because I kept losing count. It still buckled a little, but I don't know how to fix it because I know I did just what the pattern said, so assume I may crochet tighter? I am not sure. Any ideas what makes it buckle up a bit?
I'm going to give it another try though.
When I first tried, I really goofed because I lost count and it was just flat. rofl
I'm going to pick up some baby yarn when I try again too.If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. Is there a link to the pattern you are using? Let me see the pattern first, then I can tell you about the hdc joining.
Practice, practice, practice!
I don't mark my rounds anymore, but that is with years of crocheting, you just know what the stitches look like.
Buckling usually happens when you crochet too tight.
The baby yarn should do the trick, it will then fit Alexandra.

See how they put the chain edging in the middle of the steps? I goofed and added it to the bottom and it should have gone right where I was crocheting on the outer loops only. (where it makes a little faux brim)
I didn't even really realize it had a brim until I got there. I thought it was rolled up. lolIf you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. No wonder you had problems, there is a typo in the pattern, or an ommision really. So when you were doing the hdc rows, going by the pattern you were increasing every row!
I'll send you a pm with the changes in red, I just saw her copyright on the pattern.
I'll post pics in this thread for the brim and how to join the hdc rows.~~ Dee ~~

I left the pic full sized so you can see.
To join the hdc rounds.
Going from the hook to the left is the following
Hook (last hdc on the row)
2 chains from beginning of round
1st hdc from beginning of round (marked with white yarn)
In this instance you don't want to sl st in the top of the chains (they are there to get the work up to the height of the row)
You will sl st into the top of the first hdc, the one marked with the white yarn.
Does that help?~~ Dee ~~

I forgot to add, the blue pen is pointing to the 2 chain sts. It was kind of hard to see.

This is what the start of the brim should look like. (round 25)
By working in only 1 loop of the stitch it creates a ridge. Kind of makes it easier to turn up.
The tip of the crochet hook is pointing to the ridge.~~ Dee ~~
