Dee - I have a question
Dee, on the granny square tutorial, it says to use a G hook. But my G hooks are different sizes.
I have G6 - 4.00 mm
G7 - 4.50 mm
My question is - what size do I use to make the right size square for the granny squares for the contest?

That G7 is an odd ball, not many people have that one anymore. It happens to be one of my favorites!

Try them both CJ and see which one gives you a square closest to 7", that is the one I would use. The hook size in any pattern is just a suggestion (same as in knitting) No 2 people crochet with the same tension.

Man, there is so much to learn when crocheting. I always just assumed when they said use a specific crochet hook, thats what you would use.
I'm roflmbo here because I used G7 and I have a ways to go before it gets to 7 inches.
Maybe I just need to add another row, hmmmmm I'll try that.
