knitting question
I haven't tried knitting in forever, but wondered what needles are a good size to practice with?
I haven't tried in so long and don't even really remember how much I did know, so am going to just start from scratch and see how I do. I'll only be doing the basic stitches, but wondered what size needles would be best for a beginner. If you'd like to help support Frugal Living by Sara Noel, my syndicated column, e-mail, write, or call the managing editor at your local newspaper and ask them to publish it in print or online. I felt comfortable when I started using sx 8 dpn's and sx 6 straight needles. I am still new at it, so I am not sure that is right. When I went to the store, i took out the needles from the cardboard thing and felt one in my hand. the smaller ones felt too delicate or light for my comfort, the bigger ones felt too heavy and awkward. so these felt perfect.
I found these books helpful too:

I'm knitting again too. In fact, I bought my wool and needles yesterday and started last night. It's amazing how much I remembered from erm..... 30 years ago. I think the needle size depends on what thickness of wool you're using. When I bought my wool the recommendation on the label said 5.5, so that's what I bought. They feel comfy and are easy to use.

For a 4 ply worsted weight Sara, anything between a 5 and 9 needles will be good.
I learned on straight needles 5 and 8's and made hats and mittens.
