Quik Knit Class?
Has anyone taken a quik knit class or know how to do it? My friend signed me and dd and her and her dd up for the class. It's held at the end of January and the cost was $20 per person and it includes everything but the yarn. I do not know anything about knitting or crocheting so this is a big step for me. The class supposidly will teach us how to make those cool knit scarves that everyone is wearing. You have to buy that eyelash (?) yarn and one regular yarn for the class. I'm excited even though it's still several weeks away and I have no idea what it is. I am going to try and get black/gray yarn and I'm sure dd will want hot pink/purple. I'm so down right now that it's about the only thing I have to look forward to - who knows maybe I'll become a FV Needle Arts Person!

that sounds like alot of fun!! I know our walmart has gobs of the eyelash yarn right now. In every color and color combination imaginable. I hope you enjoy knitting, i find it very relaxing and i like that i can get fun results from it. I need to get my butt in gear and make myself some socks from the sweater I unraveled a year ago.

As a knitting teacher, I am excited to hear about people taking classes. Not sure that there is such a thing as "quik knitting".
Just a hint if you are a beginner...pick a light colour of yarn. You will be able to see what you are doing easier than with a dark colour... and of course have a wonderful time

I second that Pat, much easier to see a lighter colored yarn. Hope you and Ryan have tons of fun!Originally posted by DaisyLady

My class was rescheduled to Feb. 19th due to bad weather. Now I've got to look at my yarn for almost 3 more weeks before I can figure out what to do with it.

Thanks Chriss. I will check the link out. All I have is yarn so far though. The $20 for the class included the special tool to knit with. I guess I need to get some knitting needles and play around with the link you posted. Any suggestions on which ones to get? or on what else I will have to have to get started learning to knit? Thanks.

start off with a medium weight (also called worsted weight) yarn in a light colour and a U.S. size 7 needle. Two needle sets usually come in two lengths so if you find this get the shorter set. You will find it easier to work with.
That is all you need to start and you can get the needles and yarn quite cheaply at some where like Walmart.

Okay I looked at the link closely. It's hard! I am going to pick me up some needles first chance I get and I have yarn at home from various craft projects. I promise to give it a chance but honestly I don't see how I can possibly do this.

Pat, I will post a couple of other links that have better pictures for you.
Honestly, it's not hard, it just takes a bit of patience.

Would you believe that this knitting craze has hit our area so hard that there is now a shortage of knitting needles.
I stopped at Hancock Fabrics yesterday because it's close to dd's school. There was a bunch of women arguing over the yarn because there wasn't enough eyelash yarn for all of them. Then I found the needles and the only ones left were really expensive and not the right size. I quietly left before the gals decided to attack and will just wait for a better day to go to Joanns or Walmart and get some needles. Last week, Walmart had sold out of the eyelash yarn. It's a new addiction in this area!

I think it's great that so many people are wanting to try knitting and crocheting. It really is good for the spirit.
Sorry you couldn't get the needles right away though!
