My story:
Yarn, scissors and toddlers do not mix! I keep my projects, and tools in a basket by my recliner. I got tired of picking it all up (because I have WAY too much stuff - doesn't everyone?), so I kept telling my girls not to touch Mommy's stuff.
Well, I might as well have posted a sign that said "Come! Cut my yarn! Ruin my project!". My now 7 year old, several times, has decided she needed "string" for something. She grabs the scissors (if I hide mine she gets the kitchen shears), and cuts whatever color yarn strikes her fancy. Invariably, she cuts the project I am currently working on from the skein!
Well, she has outgrown this - at least she sneaks from unused skeins now! However, my 3 year old has picked up where she left off. I cannot tell you how many times I have sat down to crochet (and supposedly relax) and found myself staring at a short end of yarn!
Once she even cut a fuzzy scarf I had made in half!!! Hmmm, maybe this was a story about kids and not about yarn huh? LOL!

let's see, i've had the dog get into a ball of yarn while i'm crocheting and have the yarn wrapped around the coffee table before i knew what he had done.
when i sit on the sofa to work on ds's never ending afghan, the dog's favorite place to sit is beside me with his head on the afghan like it's a pillow. i told ds that not only my love has gone into his afghan, but now toby's love in the form of dog hair
the only mishap that comes to mind has to deal with a doll i am making for dd. the yarn for the doll is fine, but one skein i picked out for a dress for it is thinner than the dool itself so of course you don't get the same guage when using the same sized hook. well brillant me didn't think about this until after i finished the dress and tried to put it on the doll
so at a later date, i will have to find yarn the same thickness of the yarn imade the dress in and make a little sister for the first doll.

I have to tell you a funny yarn story but don't put my name in the contest okay Sara.
When we lived in the city, the home across the road from us was up for sale. The real estate lady that was selling the home had an open house. It was really hot that day so she had a chair outside, waiting for perspective customers and was knitting a baby blanket for a soon grandchild.
Along came our neighbour's dog and ran under her chair pulling the yarn as he ran chasing a cat. The real estate lady took after him, in high healed shoes dressed to the hilt. You never seen anything so funny as this distinguished lady all dressed up chasing a scrungy looking dog, chasing a cat with yarn everywhere and her yelling at the top of her lungs "if I get my hands on you, I'll strangle you".
All the neighbours laughed for days everytime we seen her drive up to the house, ready to show it. Until the day it sold, we never seen her outside knitting again.
