Free Prayer Shawl Pattern
I just love the idea of a prayer shawl. If I could knit or crochet, I'd be making lots of them

I've made a couple of these Prayer Shawls over the summer....same pattern. They're so easy to do and so beautiful. I'm going to make a few as Christmas gifts this year.

i made them to bring some comfort to my grandmother and dh's grandmother. dh's grandmother was having to deal with her husband dying from cancer. and my grandmother was having trouble recovering from a fall and some other health issues. because dh's gram is in maine and my grandmother was in Pa, we rarely got to see them. i wanted them to have a tangable reminder of how much i love them and to know they were in my thoughts and prayers.

We started a prayer shawl ministry at our church. We have about 15 ladies of all ages who are making them. We will give them out to those in need.

We have a prayer shawl ministry at our church as well. I've made several.
Michelle, if you sew you could always sew a prayer shawl out of some really nice soft material like fleece.

this is awesome, i am going to have to try to remember how to do a 1/2 double, and get busy!

1/2 double is easy. there is a tutorial on it, but the quick and probably not very clear pita version is: yarn over like you were going to do a double crochet. insert hook and pull through yarn, yarn over and pull yarn through all 3 loops.
the double crochet you would have pulled teh yarn through 2 loops, yarned over and pull through last 2 loops on needle.
like i said that is the quick not so clear pita version. see the tutorial for better directions.

think of it as doing a single crochet, but you yarn over before inserting the hook, then insert the hook, pull the yarn through (3 loops on hook now), then when you yarn over and pull through, you pull it through all 3 loops.
