Why is some yarn sold as "no dye lot"?
Wouldn't this be really risky to buy if you want to ensure consistency in your projects?
Maybe I don't understand what a dye lot is...do you just take your chances with the no dye lot skeins in exchange for cheaper prices?
Forgive my newbie questions please

You want to match dye lot to make sure all the yarn is the same in one project. I think the yarn that is sold as no dye lot has a consistent dye. I have used no dye lot yarns many times without a problem of mismatching.

Me too especially Red Heart and Caron. Now the other brands that say this, I notice they still have a dye lot number, so I still make sure I match that up and get plenty for whatever I am working on.

I think it is because over the years the company's have finally gotten a formula down for mixing the dye in large quantities. They use the same one over and over now, hence 'no dye lot'.

Does that help?
Oh and the specialty yarns, fun fur etc.... ALWAYS have a dye lot.~~ Dee ~~

i have had great luck with the caron no dye lot yarn. i think like Dee said, they have just gotten their formula down pat for the dyes and do it consistantly every time. i had started a blanket for myself once with caron yarn and didn't get back to it for a while. even a year later the next skein of yarn i bought matched.
