    Default knitters, help me out!!

I want to use this pattern ( http://siviaharding.com/Mittens.html )to make a pair of mittens for dd. In the directions for the thumb, it says to
...cast on 5 sts using backwards loop cast on....
What is a backwards loop cast on?? I have books here that say nothing about that one.

Thanks Denise, I never knew that method had a name to it. LOL I don't use that way much only for a thumb on mittens too.

I like their method of casting on with waste yarn and then knitting in reverse. I do it all the time on my knitting machines and never even thought to do it hand knitting.

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i get it! Thanks for your help ladies. I gave up on the mittens and was doing it "my way" then when I was done I went back to look at it again...I was doing exactly that. I got confused in the directions and when I just realxed and did it, I was doing what the directions said. So, pair of mittens for Hannah, done!

woohoo! Congrats on the finished pair! My kids need mitts so bad... but I got handed yet another xmas present to be made (socks for DH's grandpa), so the mitts have been put off once again. Maybe over the holidays I'll get some made!

    WTG Missy!

    Are you gonna show us?

I also have a 2 needle pattern that you don't have to add on to make the thumb. LMK if you are interested and I will type it up and pm it to you.
