knitters, help me out!!
I want to use this pattern ( http://siviaharding.com/Mittens.html )to make a pair of mittens for dd. In the directions for the thumb, it says to
What is a backwards loop cast on?? I have books here that say nothing about that one....cast on 5 sts using backwards loop cast on....~~ Missy ~~

Thanks Denise, I never knew that method had a name to it. LOL I don't use that way much only for a thumb on mittens too.

I like their method of casting on with waste yarn and then knitting in reverse. I do it all the time on my knitting machines and never even thought to do it hand knitting.~~ Dee ~~

ahhhhhhhhhhhhhh, i get it! Thanks for your help ladies. I gave up on the mittens and was doing it "my way" then when I was done I went back to look at it again...I was doing exactly that.
I got confused in the directions and when I just realxed and did it, I was doing what the directions said.
So, pair of mittens for Hannah, done!

woohoo! Congrats on the finished pair! My kids need mitts so bad... but I got handed yet another xmas present to be made (socks for DH's grandpa), so the mitts have been put off once again. Maybe over the holidays I'll get some made!
