Default Are there any rug hookers here?

I love primtive hooked rugs, and hope to learn how one day.  Can anyone give me a list of basic materials, other than wool strips and hooks?  Can you hook a rug with something other than wool strips?

I used to but only with yarn pieces. I had to give it up as the canvas was ripping up my hands big time.

Hope someone here knows more about this to help you out.

I have done rag rugs. Also called toothbrush rugs. They are easy and fun to do. The only thing is they do tend to be messy until they are finished. Here is a link.
