Finished the sock -updated with pattern
And though the colors aren't my favorite (yeesh, looks like it belongs in a carnival to me!!) the sock itself came out really well! And I have enough yarn to do another pair in the reverse of these colors (can you feel my excitement?
shoulda picked other colors)
I will post the pattern later when ds2 isn't quite so ... uh active. active is code for into to everything.~~ Missy ~~

maybe my problem with the colors is that thrugh a good portion of knitting these, I was watching "The Drew Carey Show" and so they remind me of something Mimi wore

I love it! Socks should be bright and cheery. When you look at your feet wearing a sock like that is bound to brighten up any day no matter how cloudy or rainy! Sunshine socks!

I like it!
Is sock B still on the needles?
I've been reading a lot of knitting blogs, and the really experienced socknitters seem to love bright colors, stripes, etc. They almost had me convinced to go that way....
But, then I figured that I am kind of dowdy. So, I'm planning my knitting this way: drab socks for me ... and bright ones for the kids!2012 Knitting in progress
- Leadlight shawl
- fingerless mitts
- Amiga cardigan
- Gilmore vest
- gray socks, brown socks, gray-and-brown socks, green socks
2012 Finished (3):
- Branching Out scarf
- Vivonne Bay hat
- Petits trous de printemps scarf

yep, sock number two is still on the needles right now. got the cuff done.
Here's my pattern. Remember, this is from my head.
So yer gonna have to know my shorthand; TOF = Top of Foot, GN_ = Gusset Needle _ (1 or 2). +/- = well more or less depending on what you want. AC = Accent color. You'll also need to know regualr knitting shorthand.
Need:
Yarn of choice Main color, yarn of choice AC
5 (yes, 5) dpn's I used sz 3 (You'll use the fifth one when you are doing the toe)
Scissors
Ruler or measuring tape
Pattern:
Cuff: CO 44 sts bet 3 needles (15, 14, 15) with AC (in my case, the multi)
K 1 row even.
K2 P2 evenly for 3" +/-
change to MC (yellow)
K even for 3 " +/-
change to AC (Multi)
Heel Flap:
(~~~in this section, slip sts PURLWISE~~~)
Move sts around so that you have 16 sts on needle 1. And 14 on each of the other two needles. You'll just be dealing with needle 1
Using needle 1 ONLY knit heel flap in this manner,
*S1 K1 across, turn
P1 S1 across turn*
repeat from * to * for a total of 32 rows ending with P row.
*SSK, K across to last 2, K2TOG turn
SSP, P across to last 2, P2TOG turn *
Repeat from * to * until 8 sts remain on needle.
Gussets:
Change to MC (yellow)
Slide sts from needles 2 and 3 onto one needle.
Along the heel flaps and angled parts too (the last part of the Heel flap directions) pick up 24 sts on each side. Slide 1/2 of the sts left on needle 1 onto needle used to PU sts along one side of heel flap, and the rest of the needle 1 sts onto the needle used to PU stitches alnong the heel flap on the opposite side. Each of these needles will now have 28 sts on them. (each needle will now have 28 sts on them).
We're going to rename these needles. Now the needle with the 28 MC sts on it is TOF needle, and the Gusset needle on the left (as you are working) is GN1, the last one (the one that would otherwise normally look like needle 3) is GN2.
*K across TOF.
K1 K2tog K across GN1
K across to last three, k2tog, k1 on GN2*
Repeat until GN's have 8 sts each. redistribute sts to evenly dispense the 44 sts among all three needles. Make sure you keep TOF needle in the same position it is in. The best way to do this is to remove 6 sts from each end of TOF needle and put them on the GN's. Knit your way back to the beginning of TOF needle so that your GN2 needle is knit all the way across.
TOF is now going to be needle one, GN1 will be needle 2, and GN2 will be needle 3
Measure your foot from toe to heel. Minus 1.5 inches. Minus the depth of your knitting from heel to wher you stopped knitting the gusset sts. This is the amount of Foot you need to knit.
Foot:
K around all three needles until you reach your foot measurement as indicated above.
Toe:
Change to your AC. (multi)
very carefully look at the sock, there is an obvious top and bottom. move around your sts until you have 22 on top, 22 on bottom. Split this 44 sts among 4 needles.( you may have to add stitches or undo stitches to make this work) Now using your fifth needle (as discussed Wayyyyy waaayyy at the top) and begin knitting the toe...
*k across needle to last two sts, k 2 tog on each needle for 1 row.
k across each needle*
repeat from * to * until there are just 4 sts on each needle.
move 4 sts from needle 2 onto needle 1
move sts from needle 3 onto needle 4
now you have two needles of 8 sts ea, each needle parrallel to the top and bottom.
Kitchener together
weave in end in wrong side.
Repeat whole process for second sock
written out looks sooooo much more difficult than it really is!!! Trust me!
Enjoy
