    Question Ack, more help?

    With the same pattern http://knitty.com/ISSUEsummer05/PATTbaseball.html

I finished the front through the decreases that Dee helped me with, now I'm to this part and I don't quite understand it

    Next Row [RS]: [K2, slip 1, k1, psso, k9[9,11, 11], attach second ball of yarn and BO 16[16, 18, 18] sts, k9[9,11,11], k2tog, k2.
Work both sides at the same time. P1 row.

It's the underlined part I don't understand. I understand BO (bind off) but I'm confused as to what it means when it says "attach second ball of yarn" and when it says "worth both sides at the same time"

Why are you hiding in a box Heather, I think that is a good question!

    Next Row [RS]: [K2, slip 1, k1, psso, k9[9,11, 11],
Here you are working the left side of the neckline

attach second ball of yarn and BO 16[16, 18, 18] sts,
These bind offs are for the bottom portion of the neckline

    k9[9,11,11], k2tog, k2.
This makes up the right side of the neckline.

So you will be working the right and left sides of the neckline front at the same time, each with thier own ball of yarn.

I generally work both sleeves at the same time also, that way they come out even.

HTH but if not, ask away!

    Ok, I'm still confused.

I'm working both sides of the neckline? Sides as in left & right or front & back? On circular needles or straight? It doesn't specify. I'm not sure how I would keep the different sides separate, or how to attach a second ball of yarn. Also, what is the bottom of the neckline?

Man, I knew this was going to easily

The blue X represents where you attached the second ball of yarn. Bind of the required number of stitches for the bottom of the neckline, then still using that same ball of yarn you will work the right side of the neckline.

You can use either circular or straight needles, just remember if you are using circular ones, you have to turn your work, you won't be working in a round.

To add a second ball of yarn, drop the first ball (just let it dangle) and pick up a new ball, leave about a 5-7 inch tail and just start knitting. Don't worry that those stitches will be loose, when you are all done and go to weave your ends in, you will make a knot just like you would in sewing, before you weave in that end.

I see the sleeves have a cable in them, do you know how to do a cable?

Let me know if you have any more questions.

Correct, you are working BOTH sides of the front of the sweaters' neckline at the same time. This is why you need 2 balls of yarn, once you bind off the center stitches for the bottom part of the curve, you can't work both sides using only one ball of yarn.

Oh I forgot, when you turn your work and go to do the wrong side rows (the purl rows) You work the right side with one ball of yarn, drop that one, pick up the left side ball and work that side with the other ball of yarn.

Just picture 2 separate pieces on your needle, with the bind off stitiches in the center.

    I get it now!!!
Kind of like when I made a "willy warmer"
Do I really have to attach the second ball before I bind off or can I pick up with it when I get to the end of the bind offs? I'm not using the new yarn to bind off with am I?

Cables...this is a first for me. I've watched it on Knitty Gritty (DIY show) and watched the videos on knittinghelp.com and this was the project I chose for my first cables attempt. I honestly thought that would be the hardest part LOL! And I'm really not that intimidated by them, so that's a good thing!

Thank you sooo much Dee! You are a Godsend!

YES you are using the new ball to bind off with, so yes attach the new ball right at the blue X, do your bind offs, then work the stitches for the right (as in left and right) side of the neckline.
