    Arrow I want to learn to crochet....

    I don't know anyone (close by anyway) that can teach me...does anyone have any books or sites that I could learn from? My mother tried to teach me when I was 10, but we were both too impatient

    TIA!

    This is a great place to start! There are tons of pictures to guide you through the basic stiches, then there are MANY links listed here to free patterns, etc. If you have any specific questions feel free to ask me.

    Hope you have fun! I love to crochet while I'm watching TV or a video, its also really relaxing right before bed.

    Xylina, your post sounded like you had a link, but I didn't see one.

    Chelle,
    Tonight, I went and purchased the "I can't believe I'm crocheting" guide. It cost $6.50 and is a decent leaflet. I have seen better, but this was the best they had at Michaels. I also picked up another leaflet called "63 easy to crochet pattern stitches". It shows patterns to do squares for afghans. I also picked up some new hooks. (bought a kit by Susan Bates) It was $14.99, but includes 6 hooks, a leaflet, and a knit check. Because I am just starting from the beginning, I didn't want to pay the prices of the single packaged hooks. (saw one at $12.99 for only one
    )

    I'll let you know how I do. That is if I ever get some quiet time to kind of go through it all. LOL I haven't held a crochet hook and yarn in about 10 years now. LOL Hoping a lot of it just comes back to me. I was never awesome, but I am hoping I can at least pick up basic stitches easily again soon.

    I like the book "Crocheting in Plain English" by Maggie Righetti. It's a great instructional book, as well as being a fun read.

    This is something I've always wanted to do but for the life of me have never been able to do it. My mom used to crochet beautifully but never could teach me either. Now dd wants to learn and I can't teach her.

    Thanks for the websites.

    Good Luck Michelle!

    I have been crocheting for over 25 years and I still love it! I am currently working on 3 different projects. If you have any questions, just ask. I still find it very relaxing. I have taught all of my nieces (4 of them), 1 nephew and 2 of my sisters to crochet. After you get the stitches down, I think the hardest part was showing them how to read a pattern with all the abreviations. Keep in mind when you are picking out patterns, that the British ones refer to the stitches differently from the American versions. Same stitch, different names.
    I hope you enjoy it!
