Default self taught or did someone teach you?

just thinking about this. looking at some of the amazing work.

I taught myself to crochet after my second was born and MIL gave her the blanket she made (she made one for our first and one for the second)

it was HIDEOUS! browns and beiges and not a good baby blanket.

our first got this gorgeous blue confetti with pinks and nice girly colours and soft.

I was heartbroken so right then and there I vowed to make one for her that was appropriate. of course she's almost 3 now and I haven't made one yet.

but I have made lots of other neat things.

just finished making a couple of diapers for the new baby too.

Completely self-taught. Which would explain my questionable skills. I started teaching myself to crochet just over 20 years ago, and still can't crochet a granny square to save my soul (trying to find the time to go through the tutorials here) but I can crochet a great Harry Potter scarf!

Also taught myself to cross-stitch, latch-hook, and some hand-quilting (had to give that one up due to lack of room). Am looking into tackling knitting, basketweaving, pine needle weaving or possibly even sewing next.

My great-aunt taught me to crochet. A friend taught me the basics of following a sewing pattern (like difference between clipping a curve and trimming a seam allowance).

I am self taught for: quilt piecing, hand quilting, embroidery, x-stitich, knitting, and applique (hand & machine).

    self taught mostly.

My step gran taught me to knit, and my mother gave me a little sewing instruction before she died but for the most part, I've taught myself.

Any craft I do id self taught except for hand knitting. A neighbor lady taught me that when I was about 15, and a harder task master than I have ever had! The great thing about it is she made me realise that if you are going to do something, to do it right.

nice to know that there are other self taught people out there!

most of the moms I know on my other site all have to have classes and teachers and stuff....I couldn't do that! give me a book and a pattern and I will figure it out!
