I made some for my mom a couple of years ago, and it was a lot of fun. They have to be sanded down really smooth though or the yarn catches on them.

Thats really cool. I made hairsticks like that years ago (but only 6 inches long). What a really nice touch to add to a gift to a knitter or beginning knitter with some fun yarn.

I think if you are going to make them, make them comfortable! sand, coat, sand, coat. These could very well be something you pass down to another generation. I have a pair I tried to make, and i broke one of them. It's somehtng i would DEFINITELY make again. At the ends I used a bead and then beaded some beads on a thread with a small charm at the end. I loved it. I broke one and I think my youngest has absconded with the other.
