    Question Fingering yarn...

What is this? I thought it was for knitting socks. I just inherited my mother's yarn collection. She has bags of 8-10 balls of one colour. What would you do with that much fingering yarn?! I'm wondering if it has knitted lace applications, or should I pass it on to a sock knitter...

Fingering weight, you could do lace. FW is a little thicker than lace weight. You could make mittens, gloves, socks, scarves (doubled). Tiny baby booties...

What fiber is it? Acrylic is okay for socks, it's a little sweaty. Wool is really good for socks, even better if it's superwash (so it doesn't accidentally get felted in the wash).

10 balls 100% acrylic light burgundy
8 balls 100% acrylic dark burgundy
4 balls 25% polyamide and 75% New wool in a ply with tan, blue and navy (really nice sock stuff)
4 balls Scheepjeswol extra invicta (75 wool/25 polyamide) dark green (think men's socks)
    3 balls Nomotta Regia (75 wool/25 polyamide) a greeny slate blue (again...think men's socks)
3 balls Nomotta Regia (75 wool/25 polyamide) a slate blue

The only color that appeals to me is the blue/tan/navy stuff. But I don't have a clue how to knit socks, and I'm sure I don't have the patience! I'm a slow knitter at the best of times. Dishcloths are about my speed!

Is 3 50 g balls enough for a pair of socks for someone?
