Question about socks
I am still scared to death to make socks on the dpn's -- although I have finally learned how to use them and even managed to make a dress for Barbie on them without poking an eye out...
How long do socks last?
What I mean is, how is the wear on them? DD has to wear a uniform and she has to wear navy blue socks. The socks at the uniform store are $12/pair and she wore one pair out in the toes already. In spring/summer, they can wear ankle socks, otherwise it's knee-highs or tights (no pants, ever). I can't find the blue socks at the chain stores very often and thought about making them.
I can't be out of money... I still have checks left!

I don't know about every day wear & tear. They probably wouldn't last longer than store bought ones. My oldest pair of socks are about a year old and still holding up very well. But I don't wear them anywhere near daily.
But they would be nice & warm, especially if made w/ wool (the best kind of sock yarn IMO lol) and they would have the sentimental factor of being mom-made

Thanks Heather ... no, she doesn't wear the same pair every day
we have 5 pairs, just one happened to die off already. If I can manage to get through a pair with my eyes intact, I will attempt a second pair and then if I try a third, I'm golden.
Now to find a super easy pattern for her. All the patterns I have found are either too small, too big, or too complicated. All I need is "Cast on this many... do this... do that... don't poke your eye out"
Shes 7, and currently wearing a size 4 shoe... too big for the lil kids, too small for the adults. I know the socks we have now will last the rest of the winter/early spring, so I have a few months to get them done.

I think you could probably get away with a size ladies small sock pattern and maybe go down a needle size?
You could always use the sock pattern generator:

There are quite a few here too, just scroll down.
