Limiting wip's
I am so surprised how well this is working out:
I had a lot of works in progress last fall. And I finished up a bunch in time for Christmas: 4 bulky hats, a pair of socks for DD#2, and a pair of socks for me.
After all the Christmas knitting, I decided to limit my wips. First, I finished off the in-progress knitting: 2 pairs of socks and a scarf. It took most of one month, but then I was able to cast on for new projects.
So, here is what I'm allowing myself: no more than 3 wip's at a time.
Right now, I've got 2:
- a pair of socks for DD
- a lace scarf (feather-and-fan)
It's going incredibly well!
The scarf is a simple pattern, so I can work on it for TV knitting. I had to use double-point needles, since I didn't have any others with sharp enough points, so it's my sit-in-the-recliner knitting. When I get circs, I think I'll make a lot of F&F scarves for gifts. And then, THAT will be my travel project.
The sock has produced much tinking. It's a new pattern for me ... toe-up, short row heel, and a baby cable rib. But now that I'm up to the ribbing, it's great for odd moments and travel knitting. [If I get to a difficult spot, I sit down and figure it out at home before I take it in my knitting bag.] And I don't get 2nd sock syndrome, if I only allow myself one pair of socks OTN at a time.
So, instead of having 6 or more wips, having 3 or less is working very well for me.

Congrats on keeping the WIP monster under control!!
I can't stand having a ton of WIPs, I feel like I never get anything done lol. My personal rule for myself has always been no more than one pair of socks otn at at time.
It drove me nuts before Christmas when I had so much Christmas knitting to do that I had 6-7 projects OTNs at the same time. Right now, I have two things OTN. My Chevron Scarf that's taking forever (it's done w/ sock yarn and size 5 needles - no wonder) and a sweater for my old lab. I had hoped the sweater would be done before this winter is over, but she's so big it's taking me forever and a day just to get the first piece done.
It doesn't help that I haven't been getting a whole lot of knitting in these days. I get about 20 minutes each day in the van waiting for the kids to get out of school. I think my brain was fried from all the last minute Christmas knitting. This year I will start my holiday knitting MUCH earlier!!

My hat is off to both of you!
I seem to have a box of always in progress, never finished. I'm getting better though! My goal this year is to dig through my UFO box and for every new project I finish, pull out a UFO and finish it too. I've promised myself that I won't buy more yarn until I'm down to one rubbermaid drawer full! LOL! Right now I have 3 and a box!
unless it is a project that I'm going to work on and complete! right away!
For the Record though my UFO box could be anything from finishing up 5 or 6 rows to sewing on buttons or weaving in the ends! LOL!
Grumpy (with yarn that is 20 yrs old!)

I have one big quilt I'm working on and a bunch of smaller projects. The smaller projects will get finished quickly once the big one is completed. I am concentrating on getting the big one completed.
